Eschalon: Book I Ships, Demo

Basilisk Games announces that Eschalon: Book I is now available, kicking off a planned trilogy of traditional-style role-playing games. A playable demo for the game is available on ComputerGames.ro, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, and PixelRage, and here's the shipping announcement:

Indianapolis, Ind. — November 19, 2007 — Basilisk Games, Inc. today announced the availability of Eschalon: Book I for Windows based computers.

“We are very excited to be releasing Book I after more than two years of development,” said Thomas Riegsecker, Lead Developer of Eschalon: Book I. “This is a product that will appeal to gamers who are looking for a more traditional role-playing experience rather than the action-driven RPGs that are commonly produced today.”

Eschalon: Book I is the first in a trilogy of role-playing games designed to have a play style similar to classic RPGs of the 80’s and 90’s. With a focus on a single-player storyline, statistically driven character development and turn-based combat, Eschalon: Book I features a style of gameplay rarely seen in anymore commercial games.

There's not much strategy used in combat. Maybe the standard approaches of Melee, long range, traps, or with the use of darkness. Although when it comes to solving a quest you can use a wide amount of ideas to complete it. Outwit a NPC into what you want, Kill them and take it, sneak past them at night and complete the task, help them and be rewarded, pretty good interactions.

You're dad on though this brings a new adventure to people who still enjoy old cRPGs.

Haven't finished it yet, but so far not bad.

The combat is simplistic, and without other party members to manage, there's not much there in the way of tactics.

Still, if you like lots of stats, getting off the beaten track and exploring, and miss that old school RPG experience, check it out.
