Trust me there is no hardware manufacture conspiracy here its always been this way with PC gaming, yes thats right there pushing the envelope building the next generation game engine surprise surprise you need top self hardware to run it maxed out. But Crysis has taken that too far. UT3, TF2 and COD4 all look brilliant and all run great on topend hardware - Crysis doesn't. To run Crysis at a reasonable framerate you're talking about 2x 8800GTs or 8800GTXs in SLI for high and that's not even factoring in ultra high, as a single 8800GTX (the most powerful bar the Ultra) only managed 30fps in high. We're not talking about something that can only run in high on 20% of computers but more like 2% - sure the graphics are great (based upon the screenshots) but they're not that far ahead of the competition and their games run great. Not only that but others aspects of the gameplay let down Crysis as a game (AI / plot / character animations / etc), leading to a pretty disappointing end result.
When my new graphics card arrives I will try to play through it again but the terrible plot, unimpressive graphics (at medium) and lacklustre gameplay let it down the first time around the demo. In comparison I thought Far Cry was amazing on first play, though let down by a terrible plot. It's weird because everything I've seen and read tells me I should really enjoy Crysis and yet I think it is the worst of the AAA titles out this year.
