Ships Ahoy - Crysis

Gamers and hardware vendors rejoice, as EA announces Crysis is shipping, and Crytek's highly anticipated nano-powered first-person shooter should now be available in North America and Europe:

Redwood City, Calif. – November 13, 2007 – The wait is finally over! Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Crytek announced that Crysis® is now shipping to stores in North America and Europe. Featuring jaw-dropping visuals, industry leading technology and open-ended gameplay, Crysis is set to break new ground in the FPS genre and has already received a 98% from PC Gamer, the highest score ever awarded in the magazine’s 14-year history. Crysis is also setting the bar internationally, with a 94% from Gamestar in Germany – in its 10-year history no other game has earned a rating over 94%.

“Crysis is the culmination of the dedication and tenacity of everyone here at Crytek who shared the goal of creating a true next-generation FPS,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “Our vision from the beginning was to deliver an immersive, open-ended single-player campaign, to innovate in multiplayer and to give our community a powerful, easy-to-use editor and we’re extremely proud of the end result.”

“Crysis is nothing short of amazing. It is an innovative, technical achievement that has blown us all away,” said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. “EA Partners has a long history of working with the most talented independent studios in the world and helping them deliver their creative vision to a mass, global audience and our experience with Crytek is adding to that legacy.”

The complete Crysis package is composed of three primary components:

        • An Epic Single Player Campaign – Players are thrust into the middle of a global conflict between the US and North Korea over a mysterious artifact that turns out to be extraterrestrial in nature. Fortunately, players are outfitted with a high tech Nanosuit that allows them to alter their strength, speed, armor and cloaking abilities and an arsenal of fully customizable weapons, helping to even the playing ground against a highly mysterious and intelligent enemy threat.

        • Multiplayer Reinvented – Crytek has also focused much of their development efforts in creating two unique multiplayer experiences. PowerStruggle is a new, team-based multiplayer mode where players need to work together strategically to capture resource points throughout the map to win the ultimate arms race for nuclear technology. And for those who are looking for a more action-packed experience Crysis also features Instant Action, traditional deathmatch made even more frenetic as every player is outfitted with the revolutionary Nanosuit.

        • CryENGINE 2TM Sandbox Editor – Also included with Crysis is the complete version of Crytek’s Sandbox Editor. Extremely powerful with a simple user interface, the editor will give the community full access to one of the most powerful design tools in the industry.

Crysis has been rated ‘M’ for Mature by the ESRB (Blood and Gore, Language, Violence) and 16+ by PEGI in Europe. Visit www.esrb.org and www.pegi.info for updated rating information. For more information about the game, log onto http://info.ea.com or the game’s official website at www.nanosuit.com.

The game is FUN but I'm not sure I'm completely sold on the invisibility mechanic in conjunction with the quick and automatic health regen -- it can make the game too easy at normal difficulty.

Well first the obvious...don't play on Normal mode.

I'm 3 or 4 missions into the game now, and trust me when I say, the Invisibility is required later on when you are fighting waves of 4 or 5 guys at a time, finish them off and 4 more show up. And (secret text)... Not to mention when you start fighting other guys in Nano Suits that take a fair amount of damage to kill, and they can regen too.

The AI is not "retarded:" that's a big exageration. The reactions to the invisibility option (or lack of reaction) could have been done better but that's the only glaring AI error. I do like how they dont just stand there when I lob a grenade. The game is FUN but I'm not sure I'm completely sold on the invisibility mechanic in conjunction with the quick and automatic health regen -- it can make the game too easy at normal difficulty. It still beats single-player COD4 and BioShock by miles.

I have full administrative account. I just went through everything and there's nothing there for Crysis. I can make a shortcut from the game folder on C: and start it that way of course. Just baffles me how such a basic thing seems to be a problem. World in Conflict was the same, so it's not just Crytek.
In Vista, game devs are not supposed to install startup shortcuts onto the desktop or in the start menu. They go into the "Games" thing that you launch from the Windows menu instead, so they can be parental controlled etc etc blah blah. This is just them following the Games For Windows guidelines. Some games just ignore them.

Sounds like FarCry. Pretty sure this has everything to do with the programmers at CryTek, not EA. If EA deserved bashing, I'd bash them.

Oh, I didn't know Farcry suffered from the same problem. I restarted last night, and this game **knocks fervently on wood** doesn't have the same problem. I had some other issues in the first one too, so hopefully it's better now.

"Did you try shooting the gun off the vehicle?"

You know, that's actually a good idea.
But it's still retarded that I have to do that. In Farcry you could throw all kinds of trash into a car, and if your mouse cursor was over the trash rather than the car, you interacted with the trash.

Seems kinda stupid to me the way it is now. Maybe they'll patch it.

Vehicles seem a bit off somehow. I find it very strange that I can't grab a gun that's lying on top of a vehicle, since it will always say "enter vehicle." I don't WANT to enter the vehicle, I want that fucking gun that's lying ON TOP OF the vehicle. No. Can't do that. Okay?

Have you tried to shoot the gun off the top of the vehicle so you can pick it up?

Every time I try to load a game, it crashes me back to the desktop. Awesome. I've tried five different savegames. Wonderful. Must be an EA title

68. Runs pretty well on my old rig Nov 15, 2007, 00:25 Creston

Athlon 64, 3500.
1 Gig Ram.
Geforce 7900 GT. (512MB)

1024x768, everything set to medium except volumetric and shadows (both set to low.)

I get very good framerates, easily in the 30s-40s. Some few scenes I even see texture tearing because I can't for the fucking life of me find where I can turn on Vsync??

Haven't fiddled around with many of the options yet to see what I can pump up. I tried switching textures to "high" and it made my computer literally whine. Turned that back to medium right quick.

Graphically it's nice on medium, but Farcry on very high was prettier. Obviously this will blow Farcry away when you switch it to very high, but okay.

So far I like it okay. Not sure what the problem is, probably it's just the first level, as I've heard people say it gets a ton better later on.

I found it a bit vague that while chasing Korean fucktardsin a boat to boat battle, suddenly the game decided that I had apparently given up on the goal to turn that jammer off, and simply turned it red. I was unable to complete it after that. I guess I'd gotten a little too close to the other side of the bay or something?

Vehicles seem a bit off somehow. I find it very strange that I can't grab a gun that's lying on top of a vehicle, since it will always say "enter vehicle." I don't WANT to enter the vehicle, I want that fucking gun that's lying ON TOP OF the vehicle. No. Can't do that. Okay?

Why do enemy bodies disappear within 5 seconds? Can I turn that off somewhere?

The cloaking option is just too cheap. Cloak. Walk towards enemy. Go prone. Turn off cloak. Wait 5 seconds to recharge. Turn on cloak. Put gun against enemy's head. Fire trigger. Rinse and repeat. Shouldn't they at least be able to see you a LITTLE if you're moving while cloaked?

I love the physics though. Smashing humvees into little tin plates shacks everywhere is fantastic. Picking up koreans and bowling them through their dormatories is always good for a chuckle. And I think it's amazing that you can now slam into a tree with your humvee, and the tree will break. I wonder if I can get a bunch of trees all together at the top of a hill and turn it into a murderous log trap.

All in all I'm having good fun, but I'm not as bowled over as I thought I would be. Hopefully once I leave level 1, that'll improve.

This may sound kind of silly but I've seen it a lot. Pull out the video card and check it for dust. Dust build up can really warm up devices

Playing it now....simply fantastic fun.

Question: what would be considered "overheating" on my nvidia card? 150 deg F? 200 deg F? I've got the cryisis beta drivers installed but I'm starting to get some graphics corruption after playing for about an hour.

EDIT: I'm using an 8800GTS

Well I do not know about under Vista, but in XP Crysis put Start Menu shortcuts under EA/Crysis/ same folder that CoHOF has them.

Is this the demo or do you have the full game?

Full game. I was hoping that the AI would be significantly improved from the demo but that isn't the case.

"Assault", while not quite up to the level of intensity of CoD4, was still a hoot none the less.
