What the hell? Is there any greater sign that one is self-obsessed when you can't present your creative work without discussing the AUTHORIAL PROCESS behind that creative work? Ya. Although I have the greatest respect for Richard Garriot (after all the Ultimas are stil to this day one of my favourite series of games), he does seem to be getting a little full of himself.
Though he does PALE in comparison to the likes of Derek Smart and Jack Thompson when it comes to self-obsession.

This is clear to anyone who has had a high school education. CJ, due to his idiocy, had to try to have a slam at me by purposely misunderstanding my words. teh intarwebs is srs bzns.

CJ is a moron. "Richard Garriot (or whatever rank he is giving himself now)" does not imply that Richard is a rank. It simply implies that Richard Garriot likes to give himself ranks.

Well I sure as hell hope you are not CJ PArker the novelist; because that statement was lame. Or are you suffering from withdrawal this morning or something.
RG has had "rank/name" issues ever since Akalabeth which of course reminds us of other Game DEVs (Admirals, Supreme commanders, etc.).
First Lord British, then General. I think most of us preferred him as Shamino; that was a much more friendly persona.

Interested in this game, I went to its website yesterday and tried to check out screenshots, backstory, etc. When I clicked on 'backstory', what I got was not just backstory written by Richard Garriott (or whatever rank he is giving himself now), no; instead, I got Garriott TELLING ME ABOUT HIM WRITING THE BACKSTORY. He talked about his 'motivation' for writing this and that.

agreed with hubricide. The consumer masses discovered WOW and loved it to death, but whatever comes next will need to be different to attract them again. TR comes across as a capture -the-flag FPS but the ultra-generic look of everything left me unimpressed. I dont think its gonna fly. Garriot promised innovative but it really isnt.

The ball-busting is intense. I submit however that the MMORPG has merely run its course and that it will require a truly different game to really make the genre interesting.
When will this happen? Maybe it will happen tomorrow. Maybe it will happen in ten years. Maybe it already happened, long long ago. Maybe all of these things.
Also - Ultima V was a great game.

Lorcin: Hahahahahahaha, exactly what I was thinking.
I'd also like to add: is it just me, or does he look unhappier in that general's outfit now that the game is hitting shelves...

The producer and director of UO was Starr Long, who really is the person that deserves the most credit for Ultima Online. However, I was still very involved throughout that project as a designer. And we have a very similar relationship on Tabula Rasa, where it is Starr who’s managing the team, managing the purse and the process of getting the game done.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH pass the motherfucking buck mr britass.
EDIT: BTW is it just me or does "Starr Long's Tabula Rasa" not sound better anyway?
