Maybe you should increase the difficulty level to medium. Thank god is isn't something like Gothic3, that game was freaking horrible.

I wouldn't bother, the animations are poor, the story is bad. It is a very simple RPG, I was hoping for something like Gothic from what they were promicing. The camera angle is horrible it gets in the way. Combat is total shite, click click click dead, same again no skill involved. I know one of the selling points is that this aint no ordinary RPG, you can screw women, gamble and get sworn at!! I mean is this a reason to buy a game which quite frankly sucks. The movement using WASD is horrible, combined with the camera it is very painful and totally annoying. Nothing new here I'm afraid but plenty of people will love it who just love clicking combat.

I've heard good and so/so reviews so far. The main annoyance for most people seems to be the 3rd-person cam angle, which apparently sucks pretty badly. If you use the iso view, it seems to work fairly well though. Read what seems like a pretty balanced review at Eurogamer. I think that if I get this one, I'll want to grab the Euro release anyway. You won't regret buying this game. I do admit that the loading times can be a pain in the arse. It would be ok if you could turn of auto-saving. I also like the fighting, ofcourse there is clicking involved. Just looking at the enemy didn't help so I have to click to attack him.
You have to switch a lot between different battlestances, you have fast steel, hard steel and another steel (Area of effect). The same goes for the Silver stances. Silver is very effective against creatures, non-humans and steel is effective against humans.
Mouse button 2 is used for magic. There are 5 different schools of magic.
So far I screwed about 3 women in this game..oh yea there's sex in this one. Lots of drinking and gambling too. Fistfighting is also a lot of fun, once my opponent told me that 'your mom sucks dwarven cock'.
Anyway, a good story and lots of fun and it runs great without any fps dropdown.
hmmm, I sound like a fanboy...but seriously..it's a good game. This comment was edited on Oct 29, 01:11. |

the acting/script is about as entertaining as power rangers
"OH NO LOOK OUT ITS A BEAST" "OK I WILL ATTACK IT" "NO DON'T"
i was snorlaxing after about 2 seconds
The actual game is OK, but i think it would just be more fun replaying oblivion.

Thanks Overon. Even a gameplay vid on gametrailers had a loading screen lol. I'll probably check this one out though.

I got the game. It uses a Bioware Aurora Engine 2007. And this game (probably engine) have 2 big flaws. One is the loading. I have 2 GB of RAM. I don't run any antivirus in the background much less other programs. But the game loading time frequency and duration are killer. The game insists on loading internal areas separately. Let me give you an example. You are in some outside level, and then you want to enter inside a house. Even though the house is so tiny and only has 1 room, it requires the game to load the interior of the house. This loading screen lasts about 15 seconds. Then when you go out of the house you get another loading screen, this one lasts about 40 seconds and you get an automatic save as well which adds another 10 seconds to the loading of the outside. It makes the game very painful to play. You spend a lot of time waiting and mostly just avoiding entering small houses that aren't a part of any quest. So it's the frequency and duration of the loading that kills it. This is a major flaw. Plus the quickload/quicksave are anything but quick. They are the slowest I have ever experienced in years.
The other major flaw in the engine is what looks like HDR lighting or whatever the type of lighting this game uses. It seems to be the cause of a big performance hit. And there is no known way to turn it off. Any scenes that have a lot of lighting, I get a major fps dip. I have a core 2 duo 6600 and a x1950 pro 256 MB with ati tray tools showing me my FPS in real time. The graphics quality don't warrant such a huge performance hit. But this being an rpg, the fps is not as important as in a first person shooter. So the biggest complain is definately the duration and frequency of the loading.
Everyone complains about the loading everywhere you look.

Has anyone seen or read a really good in-depth review of this game yet? Not necessarily a media outlet review either. There was a link posted here yesterday :
http://www.yougamers.com/reviews/13519_the_witcher/
First review I've read from that site so I don't know how reliable they are. Most of the comments I'm reading on message boards are positive.
Ordered this from the UK today anyway.

So far I've seen two people here say it's awesome, and two people here say that it's okay/so-so. One person mentioned that the combat is pretty mindnumbingly boring. (basically just left click until enemy=dead.)
I agree, I'd love to see a good, well written review.

I prefer well written reviews by the consumer since media-whores are usually bias depending on the amount of advertisements/money/gifts given.

HellSlayer "Do not go to a gamers hell! It will not of coke or up to date video drivers!"
I get the feeling, this is Google Fu English but from what language I don't know.
I sort of get the Video drivers thing, both ATI and Nvidia seem to need updated drivers for The Witcher as do many new games.
Though the "coke" reference is definatly confusing.
I defiantly bought it as if we don't support independent developers, there will be none left and we will be stuck with EA shit games, which are mass produced updated version with no innovation or creativity.
