The demo crashes for me every time, dumping me to the desktop at the lowest resolution with 4 colors. Too bad, I'd have liked to give it a try.
(And yes, I updated my drivers etc. etc.)

The UT3 beta demo GUI is so console centric. All the sliding menu screens makes it seem like xbox live. Also each screen has so few options.
The essential features of a PC centric GUI is lots of options on one page, a minimum number of pages, lots of configurable options.
The essential features of a PC HUD is high customizability in transparency, small graphics, and smell text.
Right now in this UT 3 beta demo we have the exact opposite. A console centric design. This comment was edited on Oct 15, 10:45. |

I'll give you the HUD & GUI issues ...looks a bit consolized but the graphics...well even if you cank everything up in the beta demo you'll only see medium quality textures.. No high quality or Ultra high quality textures (not a 100% sure if the ultra high setting wil be there like in the last UT)
In other owrds do not expect to see the image quality shown in screenshots..they have to keep a somethings under wraps so not to take away the wow factor on launch day.

I'm going to gladly give them some slack because this UT3 demo is simply amazing. Wow! This is a fantastic game. Are you serious? The best thing I can say about the demo is that the vehicle physics are the best I have seen in a FPS game ever.
But almost all the negatives are a result of the console being the lowest common demonitator and the resultant HUD and GUI. Also the graphics aren't as hot as all the screenshots would have us believe. However there seems to be some precedent (previous ut demos did this also) and weight behind those that say the demo shipped with lower resolution textures to keep the size of it down.

Calling it a beta demo doesn't prevent the wrath of players. Just check out the epic forums. Epic actually started a sticky thread asking people for their opinions on the GUI. I had to give it to them.
