altho, we all know it will hit PC sometime later anyways, probably in a year or 2 right, when the 360 starts showing its age and sagging boobs. (by sagging boobs i mean the crap coming out of EA)

Only in the U.S. The PS3 is outselling the 360 in the Asian market nearly 1.25 to 1. I think this is the first time in video game history where there's literally a divide between regions. Of course let's not forget that Wii is kicking both consoles' asses and looks like it'll continue to do so going into this holiday season. I think the clear winner is Wii. It is truly becoming the out-seller in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
I honestly don't give a shit about all three. All I want is Mass Effect on Windows and I'll be happy.
BioWare? Please? Mass Effect on Windows... yes? *googly eyed plea* o_o

Mass Effect has just about sold me on a 360. I'm beyond disappointed with BioWare. It my understanding they were going to release this on 360 AND Windows, like 2K did for BioShock. Completely dissappointed BioWare!

You guys must be really picky. I have several great Wii games that I play all the time:
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Super Paper Mario - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (how a FPS should be) - Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (much better on the Wii) - The Godfather (100x better on the Wii) - Trauma Center: Second Opinion - Elebits
And there are quite a few promising ones coming out this holiday season.
Some of you guys really need to enjoy more game types.

he worry about how many 360s are breaking down is probably more relevant. 100% failure rate here, first one died just after the original warranty was up so I took it apart "woops" and tried to fix it no go. After I cooled off i caved and picked up a new one surprise surprise it died a couple weeks ago and just got shipped out to M$ nice stuff.

The 60gb version has full backward compatibility through hardware, and the 80gb version has the same backward compatibility that the European version did through software.
I have no idea on the 20gb version, but you'd only find those used anyway since they aren't on shelves anymore.

Question, if I was to get a PS3 here in the US, which versions do have backwards compatibility? I never owned a PS2, but there are quite a few games I would love to play for it, and purchasing a PS2 and a PS3 just seems like a waste of money at this time.
Thanks.
BTW anyone I have talked to with a PS3 says Warhawk is pretty much a 'must have' for the system. Not enough to warrent purchasing the system, but a very good game.

I actually love Warhawk; it's spoiled me for most other shooters if only for the fact that at any time, any of my friends (or sons) can jump into the game I'm already playing via split screen, and tag out when they're done. And up to 4 people can do that at the same time. That's just an incredible amount of shared fun.

I've read a couple things here I disagree with.
First of all, the Nintendo Wii has to be the most over-rated piece of hardware I have purchased to date. I have a Nintendo DS, and it's a blast. It's just fun. The Wii? Not so much. It's ugly (graphics wise), and there are maybe two games worth buying for it. I sold mine on Ebay for a nice profit because I just wasn't using it. I did not regret that decision. I regret buying one based on all the hype.
Second, Sony is f*cked. It's not because they have bad hardware, which they don't (although I think motion control was a stupid idea to begin with...also an over-rated part of the Wii). It's because they have no plan. I can see it now, a bunch of Sony execs relying on name alone and ignoring Microsoft (I also believe Nintendo caters to a different crowd). And it bit them in the ass. And now, they keep changing up SKU's, re-releasing the PSP, etc etc. They aren't focused, and they aren't selling PS3's. They're most hoped-for games to date (Lair, Warhawk, and I dunno, whatever the hell else) have been just average.
Of course, that's not entirely accurate. Sony's strategy, Sony Corp. that is, was to leverage their game division to secure their position in the motion picture/home entertainment market with Blu-Ray. They probably thought that was a slam dunk. I would argue that considering digital downloads are getting more popular, that they've bet way too much on Blu-Ray.
Sad fact: Sony has tied PS3 to the success of Blu-Ray. If Blu-Ray fails, PS3 fails. If Blu-Ray survives, PS3 might. But there's no guarentee once Blu-Ray players hit a $250 price point. Also, Microsoft's support of HD-DVD doesn't need to result in HD-DVD victory, it just has to provide enough competition and drive down the costs of players. That hurts Sony in the long run as above.
Oh, and I agree with Creston on two counts: (1) Microsoft isn't worried about their losses related to Xbox...they're all about market share, which I think you have to say has been a huge success for them, and (2) I want Mass Effect. Now. This comment was edited on Oct 8, 18:43. |

Still, you have to wonder if Microsoft has made any money from the game sales so far
300 million dollars of Halo 3 sales so far would say they're doing pretty well. Consoles don't make much money in the first year or two. It's the last few years of a lifecycle (which the original Xbox didn't really have) that the hardware has become cheap, the SKU is well established, and the games are plentiful, that the money will come pouring in.
I'm pretty sure that MS isn't worried about their revenues. Now, the worry about how many 360s are breaking down is probably more relevant.
I wish Mass Effect would come out already. I haven't fired up my 360 in two months... I wonder if it still works.

Sony really should have solved this with emulation anyway.
I just got a 60GB PS3 a few weeks ago - but to be honest, I have yet to play on PS2 games on it.

Each time you pull a complete 180 and act as if it never happened another kid realizes that treating you like an idol instead of an often-decent company makes him look like a jerk.
They are pulling so many 180s - trying to catch up to the....nm....bad joke.

I think BC is a huge waste of resources in console development. After a month of the new console I can't go back to older games.
However, after Sony endlessly bashed Microsoft for not having full-BC, and said dumb shit like "next generation does not begin until you have full compatibility," all I can do is mock Sony for now dropping it.
Stop talking so much trash, Sony. Every time you change your minds, which is about every week, you look like bigger assholes and your endlessly defending fans look dumber and dumber.
