Out of the Blue

Thankfully it turned out Hudson the wonder dog did not suffer a skunking last night, nor was it the Gunnar-man, which is quite a relief. MrsBlue admitted she'd actually lost track herself of whether the doggies were inside or outside, and went on a quick hunt herself when she caught wind of the skunking. Anyway, someone got it pretty badly last night… that vaguely sweet skunk smell you sometimes encounter while driving is the result of an unfortunate skunk also encountering someone who was driving and ended up as road-kill. The smell of something or someone that's been sprayed is so much nastier and more powerful that MrsBlue and I were both fairly nauseated just from what was wafting in the window, reinforcing our happiness that the dogs were not the victims this time (amid our gagging).

Other than those who drink it, I guess....

I don't piss in the shower.

The shower is a "clean" place for you to get "clean".

Most people don't consider urine clean, no more than feces.

And people don't shit in the shower.

Yeah, and some of them are too gross for most guys, like peeing in the shower. How many guys actually do that?

Conversely, I'm so glad my wife isn't a typical "Western" woman (probably because she's Asian). For example, she does the Guy's #9 just as much as I do.

WTF?

You got a problem with peeing in the shower but you like for your wife to fart and stink up the place and laugh?

You got some weirdness in you.

What's wrong with peeing in the shower?

Works for me. All goes to the same place. Of course, I try to hit the drain while doing it - I don't go peeing on the walls or anything.

What's wrong with peeing in the shower? It doesn't recycle that through the shower head you know. To me it seems more sanitary. When you pee in a toilet standing up it splashes out of the bowl, but when you pee while showering the whole area is generally getting hosed off with clean and soapy water.

However, I'm taking this with a big grain of salt. This is buzz from Alan Tudyk (Wash) whom was killed off at the end of Serenity.

Lots of good info...

And this bit makes me feel better about getting the quad-core for my new machine:

Multicore Support - Team Fortress 2 only makes use of multiple CPU cores for its particle system. However, both Episode 2 and Portal make use of the Source engine’s new scalable multicore system.

Their multicore solution will scale dynamically with however many cores you have on your system. The more cores you have, the more Source engine subsystems will be offloaded to these cores. What are these “subsystems” I speak of, you may be wondering. Areas such as the particle simulation, the materials system, and artificial intelligence are just a few of these subsystems that can be offloaded onto other cores for increased performance across the board.

This, along with UT3...

PCGH: It is well known that your engine supports multi core CPUs. What is the maximum number of threads the engine can calculate? What is the performance gain when you play UT 3 with a quad core CPU? Will the engine even support future CPU with more than four cores?

Tim Sweeney: Unreal Engine 3's threading support is quite scalable. We run a primary thread for gameplay, and a secondary thread for rendering. On machines with more than two cores, we run additional threads to accelerate various computing tasks, including physics and data decompression. There are clear performance benefits to quad-core, and though we haven't looked beyond that yet, I expect further gains beyond quad-core in future games within the lifetime of Unreal Engine 3.

I submitted it to blue for news, but I'm sure he won't get to it until later today, so here it is for those that read OOTB.

Lots of good info... Article covers everything from HL2 & CS Source maps updated to HDR, CS Source and CS2 development, Dx10 vs Dx9, Episode 3, new TF2 game types, TF2 maps in development, new plush toys and screenshots from around the valve offices.

10. Re: Skunks... Oct 5, 2007, 13:38 Warhawk

When I was a kid we had a stack of wood (a few pallets and lumber - nothing too major) near our burning barrels accidentally catch on fire (my fault - ooops). Some neighbors up the road called out the fire department (they thought maybe a house was on fire). They extinguished the fire and pulled the stack apart to verify it was out. One fireman pulled out (by the tail) what he thought was a dead cat from near the bottom - ends up it was a still very much alive (but singed) skunk - and it nailed him GOOD. He was wearing his full fire suit so it didn't actually get *him*, but that suit sure stank.

I know a guy who demolished his house and rebuilt on the same property partially due to Skunks living in his crawlspace.

For some reason we have a lot of them here in Bucks county, PA. I see more skunk roadkill than squirrel roadkill around here!

8. Skunks... Oct 5, 2007, 12:58 painh8r

I've lived in a few houses with wood floors and crawlspaces underneath. One house in particular had some openings that allowed skunks to get under the house. Sometimes they would spray some other animal intruder. You can imagine what it was like to have that smell coming up through the floorboards! I fled the house on more than one occasion (and ultimately shored up the foundation vents).

LINGUISTICS: Juan Manuel Toro, Josep Trobalon and Nuria Sebastian-Galles for demonstrating that rats can't tell the difference between a person speaking Japanese backward and a person speaking Dutch backward.

ugh, probably works in the same lab as Enahs.

If you say that about some of the people I work with and not monkeys, and that it is other people that can not tell which one they are speaking, the hell yes.
