Activision announces that the PC edition of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is now
available in North American stores, offering teamplay combat in the QUAKE
universe as envisioned by Splash Damage and id Software. A version 1.1 patch for
the game is on the
ETQW Website
( story), as the game is already available in Europe and Australia
( story), and a playable demo is also available
( story). Here's the heartwarming tale of a boy and his Strogg:
Santa Monica, CA – Oct. 2, 2007 – The battle for Earth has begun with the
announcement that id™ Software’s Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars™ for Windows PC,
published by Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), is available on North American
store shelves now. Developed by Splash Damage and named one of the
most-anticipated new games of 2007 by nearly a dozen publications from around
the world, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars pits the armies of Earth’s Global Defense
Force (GDF) against the invading alien Strogg in the multiplayer strategic
shooter that transports players to the front lines in this ultimate battle for
the planet.
”Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is a new and unique approach to multiplayer combat.
It combines team objectives with distinct player classes, cutting edge graphics,
cool vehicles, and powerful deployables,” said id Software CEO, Todd
Hollenshead. “Whether your thirst is for the savior or domination of Planet
Earth, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is there to quench it.”
Set within the expansive QUAKE universe in the year 2065, Enemy Territory: QUAKE
Wars offers the ultimate in objective-based multiplayer action, either online or
offline with computer controlled players. Up to 24 gamers can play online,
electing to play as the human GDF or alien Strogg in one of five unique
character classes. Employing an arsenal of weapons, vehicles and deployable
armaments, players engage in an action-packed test of skill and coordinated
teamwork through a series of combat objectives. Persistent character growth and
achievements reward gamers for teamwork, while clearly defined mission and class
objectives guide new players to meaningful contributions on the battlefield.
"Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars represents Splash Damage's first full retail game
and it would not have been possible if it weren't for the support of id
Software, the incredible investment on behalf of the team members over these
past four years and the dedication of such an active community around the Demo
and the Betas," said Splash Damage Owner and Creative Director Paul Wedgwood.
"We really can't thank fans enough for their incredible support and getting us
this far. We can't wait to see the game on store shelves!"
Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars delivers the most diverse battlefields, from
real-world locations, including deserts, glaciers, mountains and countrysides.
id Software’s new MegaTexture rendering technology renders unprecedented large,
highly-detailed and un-tiled outdoor environments all the way to the horizon.
Outdoor dynamic lighting allows for every battle to be fought during day or
night, with accurate simulation of shadows, atmosphere, vegetation, and weather.
Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars for Windows PC is rated “T” by the ESRB and carries
a suggested retail price of $49.99 for the regular edition and $59.99 for the
Limited Collector’s Edition.
The Limited Collectors Edition comes complete in a premium package with a bonus
DVD featuring tons of additional items and content, including: 10 beautifully
rendered, oversized collectible cards, highlighting select Strogg and GDF
vehicles and deployables; a bevy of concept art and final artwork, as well as
must-haves like exclusive ringtones.
Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is also in development at Nerve Software for the
Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and at Activision
Foster City for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

Tribes? TRIBES?!?! Stop it, stop it! Can't you see you're tearing me apart?!?!?!
Every time the old wounds start to heal, someone mentions Tribes and it forces me see all these other games as the shallow husks that they truly are...

Yes godamnit enough with the cramped quarters twitchfest (although TF2 is fun) and the slow moving war games ala Quake Wars and BF2. Bring back Tribes in all its glory. That game had it all.

I'm so spoiled by Warhawk--if a shooter doesn't let me play online split screen with a friend (or three), I'm just not that interested anymore. It's so much more fun to have people in the same room to play together in a 32-player game. Wait, wait, wait. Did you just say that you actually like playing split-screen..?
As for QW, I probably would have liked it had it been anything like Quake. Take out the vehicles, make the railgun act like a railgun and for the love of God, speed things up! First-person shooters are so slow nowadays. Feels like I'm wading through molasses whenever I play them. Oh Tribes, where is your proper sequel when I need it?

I kind of expected that on a site like blues news a rather complex, team based objective oriented game would get a few nods of approval.
But maybe I'm getting old and there aren't many gamers around still alive that like a bit of depth and intelligence in their multiplayer frag-fests...

Interesting how this available on Steam, but there is no mention of it in the press release or on the official website.

Sounds like an ATI issue to me... It was. ATI released a driver that gave their users a wallhack, basically. Had to add an OGL extension to a HW feature to fix it.
Also, Doom 1 and 2 were NOT spammy. Fast != spammy.

I still believe that the features in QW do not match the game speed or mechanics.

Ok fixed the problem.
Even ATI admits that 7.9 just plain doesn't work on x1950pro agp cards and give the BSOD no matter what.
But I did manage to track down some leaked 7.10 drivers and that did the trick works like a charm now

1) For me, TF2 is far far more fun. It's only a spam fest with new players that don't know how to play yet.
2) I tried the beta for ETQW briefly and didn't like anything about it. The clunky animations, the boring rehashed art style, un-fun gameplay, etc, etc.
3) Adverts, people found a way to disable them, hence less bitching.
4) Far better games to play this fall, TF2, Ep2, Portal, Crysis, Opposing Fronts, Bioshock, plugging away at STALKER when the mood strikes, and I'm playing through Dark Messiah a second time.

Uffortunatly 7.9 drivers dont work for X1950pro AGP cards because you get a BSOD.....
Sounds like an ATI issue to me... Did you try the Omega drivers?
Did you use the tool to COMPLETELY remove your vid drivers? Or did you just install over your drivers?
There are lots of things to try.

I agree...TF2 has not donemuch for me and as Spooge said it's a spam fest. Remember that Doom I, Doom II and Serious Sam FE/SE were all spamfests but great games. The pleasure of those games is trying to franticly zig zag around in the spam so as to minimize your chances to get hit.

I'll still check out TF2, probably. Maybe there's something special about it But I just don't get that vibe from QW.

Maybe they're only on ranked servers? They're not activated yet. Seen the "Join the GDF!" style ads? That's where they'll be eventually. Of course, a couple entries in a HOSTS file, and you'll see Join the GDF again.
