Hellgate Guru points out that there are preorder offers for Hellgate: London (on EBgames, for instance) that include invitations to the beta test for the action/RPG and "access to the Founder’s Offer subscription upgrade," which they point out was referred to as a "Lifetime Subscription" by Flagship Studios' Kaiser Hwang. It's a bit vague at this point exactly how this is supposed to work, but they make it sound like this may be a way around the game's multiplayer subscription fees (story) that have upset some potential players.
