Orange Box Nears

Opening The Valve: The Gabe Newell Interview on GamesInformer talks with the Valve honcho about the upcoming Orange Box Half-Life 2 release, discussing the reason for the demise of the Black Box, plans for Steam packages, mobile games, console games, and a laugh over the idea they could pin down an Episode Three release date this far in advance. The conversation also confirms they are on track to ship on October 9, with Gabe offering a brief "yup" to the question about whether all three games (Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal) are "pretty much finished."

LOL! Valve is charging for something people already own if they have those other games.
Indeed, and I have said that I don't like the policy.

If Valve doesn't offer just those wanted items to the buyer for less on Steam or elsewhere, only then could they be considered freebies.
The interview says that there will be more diverse packages on Steam but in retail they could only produce one offering, hencing the idea to give away licences. So it's because of retailers that they had to do it, whereas on the Steam store they don't have the same restrictions. Another big plus of Steam - they can offer bundles, like the id bundle... it is a much cheaper way than having to develop a retail version, hence why we haven't seen a massive id bundle pack before. More plus points for Steam.

That could and does happen with Steam as well. It's called hijacking a Steam account, and when that happens ALL of the games in the account get stolen not just the one.
But someone can't just look through your game collection and copy down a CD-key - they have to use malware or gain access to the password, which isn't the same thing and is still possible with CD-keys. It also means that people with anti-virus software are unlikely to be affected by it. With Steam, like CD-keys, you can get back your account if you prove to Valve you own it - it's just that all your keys are kept in the same place to you don't have to contact 15 different developers with different policies.

No, it won't because that statement is wrong. It IS already legal in the U.S. to transfer a PC game purchased on physical media. End of story.
Yes, but there are (believe it or not) people that live outside of the US.

Steam has plenty of postives features and many users, like myself, have decided that they are worthwhile and have taken advantage of them. It's great that I can chat to my friends in Steam whilst in the middle of Bioshock - it's also great that I don't have to worry about CD-checks because it is all done online. Steam has restrictions but it has plenty of advantages. Obviously Steam is not for you... it's proabably best you get back to fingering your sister and her HIV period stains.
