Opening The Valve: The Gabe Newell Interview on GamesInformer talks with the Valve honcho about the upcoming Orange Box Half-Life 2 release, discussing the reason for the demise of the Black Box, plans for Steam packages, mobile games, console games, and a laugh over the idea they could pin down an Episode Three release date this far in advance. The conversation also confirms they are on track to ship on October 9, with Gabe offering a brief "yup" to the question about whether all three games (Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal) are "pretty much finished."

...the next release because I am interested in all the things it will offer (continuing HL, fooling around in Portal, having some TF2 gaming love.)

But, I am at a point where I wish Valve would just make a damn HL3 instead of these so-called episodes. I still have issues with the story and pacing of HL2 - for all the crap that went on in HL and after it, they really did not cover much. It was just hello, run all over the place, and then a non-ending.
I know the story is out there, but it was not in the game.
We waited all that time and finally got the first episode. Again, wanting to see more in the story, what does Valve do? You get a lame solution to the previous ending and they immediately send you back into the complex you already beat/left. From there, more running all over the place and a teaser for the next episode as an ending. Further, for all that time, how long was the game? It was like a mini-expansion to the main game, at best.

And now it is the same thing. Wait all this time for episode two and what will there be? A few more hours of gaming? Though, I do admit this is - in my opinion, the first - new gameplay / continuation possibility of the HL world.

Again, I am interested in the second episode solely to finally have a chance to forward the HL story/universe and I think the overall package will be great (all three things,) but I have to really question the whole "episodic" content. I still think E1 should have been the real "ending" to Half-Life 2 and E2 should be the first continuing episode.

But akin to what Sin was, I really think these episodes need to be coming out a lot faster, be a lot deeper, or significantly cheaper. Or like I said, give me that full $50 sequel.

I love HL and I am the guy with both collector's editions of HL2, but if Valve continues doing the same thing with E2/E3, this may be my last HL purchase. Edit: I think the releases have been extremely polished, but I do not think they have done much for expanding/exploring the HL world. I recommend people play them all, but I wonder what Valve's overall picture/direction is.
