I would really hate for this game to fall on its face because of this bull. 2 installs eh? So then what about us folks who like to format somewhat often? Initial install + 1 format = boned? I don't think so. Congrats to 2k on NOT selling a PC version of Bioshock by making atrocious copy protection decisions. I had pretty much planned on getting both the 360 version and the PC version...not anymore if this is indeed the case.
You know, I fully understand the desire of publishers to protect their investment from theft. I truly do. BUT when your method of protection becomes so cumbersome and frustrating to the consumer that they refuse to buy your product, you've basically produced the same situation. If someone steals your game you make no money on it. True. However, if no one buys your game you also make no money on it. Personally, I'm getting fed up with DRM and copy protection in general. I'm not a thief. In fact I'm paying you for the use of your product. So why are you treating me as if I were a thief?
The other part of the issue that I do not think publishers think much about is that over protection promotes piracy. That may not make a whole bunch of sense, but think about it. When it is easier to get a bootlegged copy of a DVD with all copy protection disabled than it is to buy that same DVD and have to run through 4 hours of confirming that you actually bought the DVD while being mildly threatened that action will be taken if you or anyone within 700 feet of you even thinks about maybe taking a digital phone picture of a single frame in that DVD and only allows you to watch that DVD on a single player a maximum of 6 times...why would you choose to buy it? That's an over-exaggeration, but it's not extremely far away from the direction in which the software industry is heading.
