Yeah it was a looong talk. Amazing though, he just stood there, no notes, and just talked about what was on his mind, about the tech, ID, other companies (I liked his idea of using Apple to figure out where latency lies within the entire system at a electronic level).

Overall, very very cool and im glad I was there!

Uhm, your link is the 2006 keynote, though, not the 2007 ...

Correct link is: http://www.quakeunity.com/file=2513

It's 2.5 hours
I just downloaded it and damn, you're right. 150 minutes! I usually thought Carmack only spoke about 30 minutes at Quakecon and maybe 30 minutes for Q&A.

but when I chopped the bitrate and frequency
For 150 minutes the filesize is not too bad although the 64kbit rate you used is still a little high. 32kbit/s and 22KHz should have been plenty.

It's 2.5 hours, but yeah, I wasn't happy with the filesize, but when I chopped the bitrate and frequency the artifacts introduced were distracting for me. I'm not very proficient with LAME though, and someone could probably get it smaller without adding distortion. Apologies

69MB?! Carmack either talked for an awfully long time or whoever encoded it didn't realize that high fidelity isn't needed here. It's just Carmack talking not singing and even if it were singing, I don't think I would want to hear that at a high bit-rate.

The video ends before the Q&A; the MP3 includes that portion as well. I think Quake Unity is posting the Q&A vid on Monday though.

If anyone spots a video of the keynote, posting the link would be lovely.
