SOE Announcement Friday, Game Next Month

Sony Online Entertainment announces that Jon Smedley will open this week's SOE Fan Faire in Las Vegas with a first-ever "Community Address" on Friday at 8:30 p.m. EDT. Among the topics will be the unveiling of a new SOE game that attendees will be able to check out first-hand, which will launch by the end of August:

To kickoff the 2007 SOE Fan Faire, SOE President John (“Smed”) Smedley will provide opening remarks to the more than 1000 video game fans coming to the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for this year’s Fan Faire video game convention. This first-ever “Community Address” combines a live presentation with a streaming video broadcast online, where Smed will give both Fan Faire attendees and other gamers the kind of look at SOE products usually reserved for industry events such as E3. Both audiences will see the latest from upcoming titles like Pirates of the Burning Sea™ and Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising™. Fan Faire guests and online viewers will also get their first looks at Secrets of Faydwer™, the next expansion for EverQuest®, and Rise of Kunark™, the upcoming expansion for EverQuest® II.

In another first for Fan Faire, Smed will also unveil an all-new, SOE online game, which is set to formally launch in late August. Fan Faire guests will have the first chance to demo this new title throughout Fan Faire weekend, August 3-5. The SOE Fan Faire is a unique social event in which players of SOE’s most popular titles congregate to meet their online, game-playing peers. This year’s event boasts a plethora of game-themed live events including tournaments, contests, live quests, a variety of panel discussions and tons of great gaming related contests.

The smart money is on this turning into a SOE Fan Fire.

hmm maybe about a year ago when vanguard signed to soe they actually took all the talented people to a different team and the game due to be announced is Vanguard 2.0 or Guardvan 1.0????

Esesntally the same just minus the bugs and plus a large dose of framerate???

And yes I still have an account and still play VG a lot before people bitch at me

Kinda like how at the last Fan Fest they showed off boarding ships in SWG, take them over, and then flying away with them? Oh yeah I forgot, the NGE then happened and, well, there's not much else to say.

This is a great idea, I would like more developers/publishers to host these type of events for the fans to come to. The only one's doing it to my knowledge is Blizzard & now SOE. These type of 2-3 day conventions can really pump up sales of upcoming games.

Quakecon, while not directly hosted and paid for fully by id is still pretty much an id showcase (Carmack keynote speech and showing off their tech or other games based on their tech).

According to this site http://events.station.sony.com/fanfaire/faq.vm, Fan faire has been going on since 2003.

Or at least, that's my assumption based on the photo gallery link. It appears they move it each year, though 2005's was also in Vegas.

Anyone else tiring of the "we're about to make an Important Announcement that will announce the pending Announcment of Something Very Important" announcments?

Or do I just need a nap?

Did you just announce your need for a nap? That would be a very important announcement indeed...

Pirates of the Burning Sea maybe? They were ready to go but just needed a publisher, then about a month ago they signed on with SOE... maybe they're launching that in August.

Bioshock, Crysis, Quake Wars, Age of Conan, HL2:Episode 2/Portal/TF2, Gears of War PC, Unreal Tournament 3... it's going to be a good Q4. :-)

Online game due August? Probably one of those Dance Dance or Rockband type clones.

Or have I missed some news where this game was leaked?
