Sony Cuts PS3 Price, Announces 80GB Model

Sony cuts Playstation price in US has word that, in spite of denials, Sony has cut the price of the PlayStation 3 in the US to $499 from $599. On a related note, New PlayStation 3 goes on sale in August reveals the truth in the rumors of an 80GB PS3, saying units with larger hard drives will go on sale in August, to occupy that now-available $599 price point. Sony indicates the 33% larger hard drive will support their plans to begin offering high definition movie downloads. Sony also says they plan on releasing 100 new games for the PS3 in the coming fiscal year, including 15 exclusives.

This is a bit of a kick to the face for early adopters. I bought it at launch, and for the extra $100, I got to play the console for the past eight months. That seems like a decent deal to me. (Of course, we could only afford it because we spent the complete Christmas budget for me and two kids on it and even then stretched out a little.) This comment was edited on Jul 9, 18:04.
