On DirectX 10 Performance

Real World DirectX 10 Performance: It Ain't Pretty on AnandTech (thanks Mike Martinez) looks at DirectX 10 performance with a critical eye. While first taking care to remind us of the technical benefits of the new DirectX, they point out that: "Many of the features currently implemented in DirectX 10 could also be done using DirectX 9. Additionally, those features that are truly DX10 only either don't add much beyond what we would get other wise, or require quite a bit of processing power to handle." The article then goes on to detail just how much horsepower they are talking about and the performance hit this entails by comparing DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 performance in a variety of games, while also providing insights into which video cards handle the load best.

I'm sorry--but many, many people, including me, do not use 1280x1024 *exclusively* while playing 3d games. My DX9 resolution of choice is 1152x864, for instance.

Errr... anyone who doesn't use the native res of their display would have to be a complete frickin' retard. Now how many displays have a native res of 1280x1024 vs how many have a native res of 1152x864? Hmmm. I'm willing to bet that the ratio is pretty close to 99.9999997% to 0.0000003% in favor of 1280x1024.
And that's why AT chose 1280x1024 for testing purposes. Since it is the much more widely spread resolution because nearly every 19" TFT display has a native res of 1280x1024. Playing at 1152x864 is plain retarded if your display supports a different native resolution.
Finally, AT comes to the same conclusion as you do. They are saying exactly what you did which is that it is in fact too early to make further assumptions about DirectX 10 and that driver + games quality (= implementation of DX10 in games) still have a long way to go. So how did they blow this again? Are you all too fucking stupid to read?
