And most if not every preview I have read has compared F3 to Oblivion in some way.
Yes, most previews have compared Fallout 3 to Oblivion because Oblivion was Bethesda's last big game and the biggest game of 2006. Comparisons are inevitable. The important part is the result of these comparisons and from what I've read, the comparisons show that Fallout 3 is not like Oblivion:
- FO3 doesn't have a usage-based experience system.
- FO3 implements some form of turn-based combat.
- FO3 has locational damage.
- FO3 places a greater emphasis on moral choices.
- FO3 has a clear ending(s)
Keep in mind this is all based on what I've read and is subject to change. You say you don't buy into the hype machine and that's okay. However, you buy into the hate machine and that's just as bad. The simple fact of the matter is that you should neither condemn nor praise the game until you've actually played it.
