Deus Ex was an abberation. While it's the game that will probably always hold the #1 spot on my list of all time favorite games, it was SO good that I don't think it can ever be duplicated. And it wan't a perfect game by any means.
If the same crew, or pretty much the same crew, could produce such a miserable sequal as IW, what can we possibly hope from a new one?
The old Unreal warfare engine was not very demanding in texture size and poly count. Any of todays gaming engines would demand much better artwork both in backgrounds and character models. That combined with an extensive story with major character backgrounds that go back even to early childhood to support the deep dialog threads we would expect, all nicely voice acted as would be expected in a more modern game, will make a proper sequal to Deus Ex almost unaffordable to produce in todays gaming environment.
While it's certainly nice to dream that it could be done by a selfless group of talented artists, story tellers and programmers, it's probably more realistic to hold Deus Ex up as the steller and life consuming experience that it was, that will probably never be had in quite the same way again.
