Hydrophobia Announced

Blade Interactive announces Hydrophobia a survival/adventure game set in a flooded environment. A Hydrophobia product section is online with info, concept art, and screenshots. A 360 edition is clearly planned, but it's not clear if the game will appear on the PC or other platforms as well. Word is:

The revalation of HydroEngine has wetted your appetites, now get ready for the game that's going to blow everything else out of the water - literally. The wraps are off Hydrophobia - our revolutionary survival adventure game which uses HydroEngine to deliver the most realistic water you've ever seen. Click the links below to learn more about the facinating world of Hydrophobia, or click on the thumbnails to view the first ever screenshots of this extraordinary game.

Half Life 2 based its game play around physics.. sure there were other fun things like guns, random water jets and some ok characters, but its big thing was "Look! Physics!".. and, to my mind at least, that worked ok.

I see the same thing happening here with realistic water.. only this time (from the sounds of things at least.. hopefully I'm right) the 'extras' will be far more interesting.

Hell, there might even be some comedy (albeit dark) in the game. I read in X360 world magazine that you can attach explosives to rubber ducks and set them floating off around a corner in order to dispatch an unsuspecting enemy… that should be amusing, at least the first few times

Either way, I’m looking forward to this, definitely on my list of things to watch for.

TorToden, for a moment there I thought ya typed 'with nipples in the water..'

Hah, so it wasn't just me. I guess any mention of Lara automatically brings up thoughts of massive mammaries.

Whatever else happens with this game I am glad someone is pushing realtime physics into new areas. A high tech fluid dynamics engine sounds awesome.

They should take the water system of this game and slap it into Bioshock. Perfect fit.

That said, this game could be interesting. I'm a bit concerned about how constantly wading through tons of water could make for pacing issues but I'll have to wait and see.

Except that it looks nothing like Tomb Raider.

Sounds like more of a tech demo than a game.

If even 75% of the resources we've spent towards making realistic water were reallocated elsewhere over a period of five or ten years, I truly believe we'd be able to live and farm on Mars right now. Apparently it is the most researched element of all time.

I like the idea, and the water looks and sounds impressive.. I'll definitely keep an eye on this one..just hope there's a decent game in there when it ships.
