World of StarCraft?

StarCraft MMO blasts into orbit on Computer and Video Games says Blizzard will announce an MMOG based on StarCraft in two weeks at a Blizzard event in South Korea on May 19. They claim their confirmation of this rumor comes from "Well placed US sources," and the tone of the article is quite confident about its accuracy, even though their sources were not deemed worth of the 'reliable' appellation.

Right, I know that, but that doesn't show whether it's an RTS or an MMO or whatever.

I take it, you don't know what a firebat is.

sst: That's a firebat from the cinematic trailer they are going to show in South Korea. A friend of a friend is a coder for Blizz and he was able to sneak out that one pic.

In case you want to know what the new game is.

That really doesn't show us anything on what the new game is, just a dude smoking a cigarette. Looks like part of an opening cinematic.

The biggest evidence saying that it IS a Starcraft game is that they're announcing it in Korea. Starcraft is practically a national sport over there, and it would only make sense to announce the next iteration of the game (whatever type it might be) there.

I don't think this will be a Starcraft game. "Well placed" sources have been talking about Diablo 3 and SC 2 for years now. Who knows, it could be a completely new IP.

The chance that it will be a Starcraft MMO are just about nil, mostly because there is no pool of MMOSG's that Blizzard can rip-off, homogenize and milk for a fortune.

I really hope they do a StarCraft MMO. If they change WoW's formula I hope they don't get too risky with it, but I can see them sticking with WoW's setup and still being immensely successful. Personally, I love lasers and aliens a lot more than swords and spells. I hope it's true!

Starcraft is the only game ever that got me to play some RTS, I've tried all kinds of RTS games, but I've always had trouble liking the experience.. SC rocked. It still rocks, and I occasionally play it.

I fear World of SC , or whatever its gonna be called, might tempt me into the MMO world for the first time ever.

Planetside was alright. but at the end of the days battles.. I just stared at the map and saw all the areas I took over and then lost and recaptured and then lost x10.
No NPC's to deal with..and a total rinse and repeat game style. I'm hoping Tabula Rasa brings more depth and more "addiction" than PS did.
-----------
I actually see enough room for WoW and WoS.. should it occur.
Although to be fair.. they could announce WoS and it could drop in 2 years.. right when WoW dies.

although I am a Shaman.. so WoW is dead to me right now.. YOU'RE DEAD TO ME!!

Does nobody want to see a traditional sequel?

i do. i won't waste my time/money on an MMORPGFPSRTS whatever it may be. but i'd gladly shell out $50 for a true sequel to SC with a strong single player element. i've said it before and i'll say it again: i play PC games to take a break from reality. that's why i like single player games. real life is all about getting along with other people and putting up with their shit. i don't want to deal with that in my PC gaming.

but, that all said, i loved SC enough that i just might take the 1-week or 1-month free subscription to this game just to see what it is like.

"PlanetSide is a Massively multiplayer online first-person shooter computer game published by Sony Online Entertainment and released on May 19, 2003."

"After a lengthy closed beta stage, WWIIOL went live on June 6, 2001 under the campaign title Blitzkrieg. The release was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the D-Day: Operation Overlord invasion of Normandy."

Not really even close.

Oh come on, not another fan wank - they've said they would like to return to the starcraft universe *some time* - but not now.

This is probably going to be Diablo 3.

WWII online did it way before Planetside people!

are you sure about that? PS shipped at the end of 2000 (I think)

something ala shattered galaxies (minus the horrid balance issues) would be quite enjoyable, but knowing blizzard they'll find some disgustingly addicting mmo-formulae to hook us all by the balls.

Never tried Planetside and really didn't have the inclination from the reviews I've read of it.

WWII online did it way before Planetside people! Although the proportions were so close to reality that it was just as depressing travelling(walking) 20km to battle just to instantly get strafed by some asshat in a Stuka the moment you got there. The vehicle controls/weapon ballistics were complex as shit, putting simulators to shame. At least it felt as if there were some grander purpose for it...something I was unable to see in Planetside (that may/may not have been fixed with subsequent expansions & what have you).

I really hope this is NOT a Starcraft MMO. They promised so much for WoW originally and it'd be too much to see the Starcraft version go the same road, after much hype/impossible expectations as a result from said hype. Bring on Starcraft, the sequel or Diablo, the third!

there's no way it will 'kill' WoW (the WoW dev team are doing that by themselves.. ba-zing!)

there are many of us old school blizz fans who prefer starcraft over warcraft. and in general i prefer sci-fi over fantasy/medieval stuff. and i know alot of us are craving a decent sci-life mmo to play (which i think our only hope at the moment is tabula rasa?).

at the end of the day tho. the fact is, it will be good. and i will be there playing it. and last but not least, there is no point getting excited as it IS blizzard and anyone who has followed them knows they have a habit of taking their sweet arse time.

not saying thats a bad thing, just saying :p
