Call of Duty 4 Trailer

Though the promised commercial has not yet appeared on ESPN (story), Joystiq now offers the Call of Duty 4 trailer, with a look at the modern combat in the next installment in Infinity Ward's shooter series. The clip does not answer the question about what platforms the game is targeting (CoD3 was a console-only title), but it does offer a link to the Charlie Oscar Delta Website, which also features the trailer, and allows those interested to register for updates.

I hate it when they portray nazi's as evil, and don't realize that both side had their point of view in WWII.

doesnt it suck when everyone considers genocide an act of evil.

I stupidly thought that screenshots were taken using the printscreen key. What a joke.

Heh, I took one marketing class in college and that changed my entire view of that side of the industry. The publishers often use every black trick they can.

Then there are entities like Sony who manage to really push the tasteless envelope again...and again....and again...

The 60 fps trailer was definitely a lot smoother. Though, I still didn't find the graphics to be particularly impressive. Don't know why so many people thought it was prerendered.

The framerate in the trailer looked pretty lousy. Though, I'm sure they'll optimize the game before release.

You've probably been seeing the 24fps version of the video (list most of us). If you were watching the NFL draft on hidef tv, they showed the 480p 60fps and the 720p 60fps versions. Much, much smoother.

This is the uncut, 90-seconds version. 300 megs! There's apparantly a 180meg wmv of this, but all I've seen is this mov file.

Link:
http://www.infinityward.com/video/cod4mw_HD720p_60fps.mov

The color is much better, and 60fps makes all the difference in the world.

I don't mind "ultra-scripted" shooters since I usually only play a single player campaign 1 time. There's still a fulfilling entertainment factor. I'm sure I'd enjoy playing through this title once through. I've avoided all of the other CoD titles since WWII era got old to me 5 years ago after RtCW and the first 1 or 2 MoH titles.

If you don't like the ultra scripted nature of this game then tough. The call of duty franchise is what it is. Play something else if on rails shooters are not your thing.

I saw the commercial on ESPN yesterday during the draft...My friend and I even re-watched it to see what game system it was due for...It didn't say so we assumed it wouldn't show up on the Wii. Or am I the guy who just totally missed the joke?

Task has it right...

why can't we play as the "other" side for once? that'd be kinda cool. Going back to CoD1(maybe 2) when the boats were hitting the beach and the russian soldier popped one of his own guys, I would've loved to had been on the other side of that.

artillery strikes, sniping, and then falling back to different defensive positions when your forward one is lost.. that would've been pretty neato.

most of us gamers know by now that trailers such as that do not represent the game we will eventually be playing. but it does give us a general idea of the sort of game it will be.

but to your everyday 'casual' gamer, they would see a trailer like that and think 'wow, did you see the movie of that game?? im so buying that!'

agreed. You would be amazed at the shit some companies pull. Before I went to work for AAA developers, I stupidly thought that screenshots were taken using the printscreen key. What a joke. Artists are told about needed screenshots a week in advance so they can put together something impressive looking. Do not EVER believe ANY screenshot of any game. The only truth is the demo that you play yourself.

I mean, the man says it's "the actual gameplay you'll get to play" right in his post..

Companies have been saying for 10 years that watching an FMV constitutes playing the game. Just because you're sitting there not pressing any buttons doesn't mean you're not playing, right? Well, that's their logic at least.

Yeah even so they're likely cutscenes, not actual gameplay-where-you're-actually-playing footage, and likely rendered with max detail at a high resolution at a slow frame rate,

I guess we won't know for sure until we get a chance to play it, but (FWIW) what part of:

"all that footage is taken directly from the SP campaign, so you're looking at the actual gameplay you'll get to play."

translates into "not actual gameplay-where-you're-actually-playing footage"?

I mean, the man says it's "the actual gameplay you'll get to play" right in his post..

The framerate in the trailer looked pretty lousy. Though, I'm sure they'll optimize the game before release. Until they cross-develop it for the consoles too, in which case it won't be optimized for the PC at all.

Just so people are clear on this point -- the trailer is made using clips taken directly from the SP campaign. It is not pre-rendered.

Yeah even so they're likely cutscenes, not actual gameplay-where-you're-actually-playing footage, and likely rendered with max detail at a high resolution at a slow frame rate, I'd doubt the game will actually look that good in real-time on any systems when it comes out.
