BTW - - I still recommend Core 2 Duos over AMD, even though I was an AMD whore for years. For the same $$ you can get a faster proc by going Intel.

Not right now because of the AMD sale. The cheapest Core2Duo you can get at NewEgg is $139, which is not faster then the one Cabe linked to for cheaper (in most applications.

I like the Intels though...But he did say AMD

Changed my mind on the mobo, this one is a better deal. Only has 1 IDE connection though, if that is a concern.

They both only have one. But I like that one better too, even if you do not get the mail-in-rebate back because it has the 4x PCIx slot. It however has one less PCI slot, if that matters to elf.

I ran into this problem with my last rebuild. I scored a couple of cheap 200 gig IDE drives, and then couldn't use them because the high-end mobo I wanted only had the 1 IDE connection (and that, of course, needed to be used by a CDROM burner and DVD drive).

I guess the mobo makers expect everyone to go to SATA drives ...

Those are good ones HalfElf,Cabezone linked to.
If you do not mind going with non super name brand memory, you can get the 2 GB of DDR2 800 for only $5-$20 more (which I have had great results with personally, that is non-namebrand).

Also look play around some with the CPU and your budget, as you can get faster CPUS in different ranges for ~$20-$80 more.

And do not forget a good PSU to power all that.

3. Hardware Question Apr 18, 2007, 11:16 The Half Elf

Noticed that AMD is having a sale, and looking to start purchasing pieces via NewEgg, but I'm not overly hardware savy. I'm looking for the best bang for my buck without breaking the bank. Basically need advice on Motherboard, 2 gigs of ram and a CPU. The rest I can pretty much figure out myself, so any help would be appreciated.

After the journalistic fellatio he performed on Jesse Jackson during the Imus (it has to be heard to be believed) situation I'm praying for cancer. I've never heard such sniveling, self-hating, white guilt in my entire life.

Olbermann to work football pre-game show for NBC.

Too bad he turned into a prick with his MSNBC show.
