21. Re: Paying attention Apr 18, 2007, 21:12 maplebob

Intelligent Americans are disgusted, but as we all know those are few and far between, and even fewer actually hold sway over the general public. Instead of taking a much-needed introspective examination of the values American society holds dear and the consequences of such, most Americans will just assign blame to the first scapegoat the media offers. It's so much easier than actually thinking.

Our political system is one of assigning blame. The party who does it first and most often and gets the press behind them wins.

Have you been introspecting your self? Or have your just been blaming all the other Americans for not introspecting?

19. games ARE part of the problem Apr 18, 2007, 17:59 venomhed

To say that games have no affect on todays violence in the public is to say that pornography has had no affect on mens views upon women.

Games are not the sole cause, but they are definitely a part of it. So are drugs, gangster rap, death metal, poor family structure, lack of education, etc. etc.

I just saw this quote in an MSNBC article:
Shash said Cho spent a lot of his free time playing basketball
Thank goodness that isn't "playing video games". I'm sure the media be switching the pitchforks and torches to pursuing the evils of playing basketball now.

How does Jack sleep at night knowing he said what he said without possessing even the name of the individual who did this, let alone a breakdown on his mental/social habits...

He just went for as many cheap shots as possible in the four minutes afforded him. Shooting from the hip with his propoganda in top gear, not giving a shit about how he is twisting the sickening truths of this tragedy to his own agenda...

Hey Jack how do you compare a decrease in homicides year on year with the increase in the playstation culture, if your 'murder simulators' are the cause of a new wave of social violence?????

Truly deplorable, but then as with most 'new media' of their time, the previous generation has to go through the fear and uncertainty of the unknown with rabble rousers peddling their two bit denegrations and whipping up a storm over nothing.

14. Regarding Dr Phil Apr 17, 2007, 18:24 Trainwreck

I don't think his comments were that that out of line, or inaccurate. All he said was that if you mix a psychopath with a culture than glorifies killing - such as the type that we all undeniably witness every day on TV and in video games - this sort of thing becomes more likely. Remember, folks - he actually used the terms "psychopath" and "sociopath." Calm down, he's NOT talking about (most of) us.

So JT has said repeatedly that he has no problems with video games in general, his only concern is making sure that kids under 18 can't buy them.

So here we have a situation where a 23 year old has killed a bunch of people, and what is JT blaming? Video games. Go figure.

Good fucking god...
Would somebody please assassinate these 'icons of ignorance'?
Honestly... it's sickening enough what's going on overseas, but to have people take a tragedy such as this and glorify the blame by looking to decade old video games...

What kind of sick fucking nation is it when people get paid thousands of dollars to lie about something they've never experienced? To thousands of people who've never experienced it.

Joke Thompson and Doctor Tool... gotta love the complete idiocy that they spew forth and expect everyone to believe it to be the truth. What morons.

Funnier still is that Jack refers to Doom as some sort of a training game.

Clearly, if one were to use games to train, one would load up the Scientist Hunt mod or something similar that not only provides realistic weapons (yes, more realistic than a plasma rifle or chain gun) and screaming victims that try to run away from you rather than scores of demons and zombies bent on the destruction of Earth that run straight at you.

Jack on Fox.
Makes you want to puke.

He just blatantly makes shit up.

I feel sorry for his 14 year old kid.
I bet he gets teased NON stop. What justice if his kid were to go off of the deep end - considering there probably isn't 1 electronic goodie or "violent" anything in his house. Probably makes his kid wear kevlar to school and a helmet.

At least doctor phil mentioned that they have a mental illness, as far as jacks concerned anyone who plays pong turns into a psycopath.

eh, anything that comes out of that baboon's mouth can be considered slander if directed at someone/something.

He is a pathological liar.

Remember, insanity means doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

In further news, J-Pop is the direct cause of global warming.

LOL. Yes, that is true if all the world's J-POP fans keep getting warm and fuzzy over cute Asian chicks who may or may not be able to sing.

As far as Thompson is concerned...is he doing some sort of racial profiling there, maybe? Or at the very least being extremely discriminatory.

Are Americans looking to assign blame to anyone or anything they don't like when this stuff happens?

Well, it's Jack Thompson, so you really shouldn't make generalizations off what he says.

But yes, being an ends and results based society, Americans love something or someone to ultimately place the blame on. But in Jack's case, I keep wondering how or why he's still working in any capacity, then I read the Wikipedia article on him and found this particularly amusing:

"Thompson charged that the group placed “homosexual-education tapes” in public schools. Switchboard responded by getting the Florida Supreme Court to order that he submit to a n[psychiatric examination."

That was way back in the day when Janet Reno was still a major player in politics. Now, the fact he went for a psych test doesn't surprise me, as it's a fairly common thing to do for people in various occupations, mental health and all that. But just considering the context of his other activities and claims at the time, and all those leading up until now, it says someone out there was well aware of Jack's inabilities as a lawyer (or particular abuse of the profession) way back when.

You can usually tell who the biggest idiots are by how little information they have available when they make their ridiculous babblings. JT is clearly the winner in the iodiot race, as he didn't wait for long at all before spouting his tripe. "Dr." Phil comes in second in the time trial, but wins by a landslide in the exposure department because he was not only on Larry King, but has a show of his own.

Third place is still waiting to be claimed, but I think it is safe to say that someone running for President will grab the coveted bronze medal of the latest idiot games.

I find myself paying a lot closer attention to who's jumping into the spotlight and saying stupid ship after National tragedy's strike.

Trying to assing blame before you even know ANYTHING is very telling about who those people are.

I like to think that America in General is disgusted by these comments but am I wrong? Are Americans looking to assign blame to anyone or anything they don't like when this stuff happens?
