Electronic Arts announces they've joined forces with Nettwerk One Music to form
a new music label called Artwerk, a project they're calling "music 2.0." Here's
word: Los Angeles, Calif., March 26, 2007 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:
ERTS) today announced it has entered into a joint venture with Nettwerk One
Music to form the new full-service music company, Artwerk . The groundbreaking
initiative brings together Nettwerk’s management, publishing and digital
delivery expertise with the global marketing power made of EA’s blockbuster
games. The Artwerk label will sign and develop both new and established artists
for publishing, master recording and sync deals, as well as digital and physical
distribution. The Los Angeles-based label will be actively pursuing talent in
all parts of the world.
Artwerk also announced it has signed producer artist – Junkie XL, whose tracks
recently appeared in the top-selling games, Madden NFL 07 and Need for Speed™
Carbon. The label is currently in negotiations with several other cutting-edge
acts that will benefit from the global impact of EA’s in-game exposure and
Nettwerk’s unmatched Film & TV sync expertise.
“For the past five years, EA has been instrumental in breaking new artists, but
we have been limited in our ability to grow them. With Artwerk, we can now
directly sign, develop and launch artists for publishing, master recordings,
sync deals and beyond,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and
Marketing at EA. “With Nettwerk, we are once again partnered with the most
visionary team in the industry. And with Junkie XL as our premiere signing, we
are enormously excited about the future.”
Terry McBride, CEO of Nettwerk added, “EA has emerged as a powerful publishing
vehicle for emerging artists with an A&R department that draws submissions from
around the globe. It is time for the music industry to shake things up, break
out new bands and find new ways to expose them on a global scale. Artwerk is
music 2.0. It is where music, games and digital entertainment merge.”
Junkie XL commented on signing with Artwerk, "Both EA and Nettwerk are artist
friendly, progressive thinking companies who embrace and don't fear the future.
I feel understood as an artist and at ease with the people from both companies,
which is most important to me. I can’t wait to release my new music through
'Artwerk’."

| But there is some game music I'd like to see re-released. I like instrumental music, and there's definitely some older games with tunes that are deep in my psyche... remastered Ultima tunes for one would be very welcome. |

In other news, Google has announced it's plans to acquire Electronic Arts and rename the new company to gEAgle (and all previous Google applications will be renamed accordingly, henceforth GMail will now be known as EAmail). Now providing you with everything you've come to love from Google with EA's grand business model plus great games and music!
As part of the acquisition, all current Google users will be required to create new users under the new company and will be required to submit some non-personal information. gEAgle will also drop the Youtube, gEAgle Video, and several other non-profit parts as they don't have enough advertising to be profitable.

Music 2.0??!!
That broke my funny bone. Anyone recall the Southpark Episode where Cartman sees a couple who have "Buttocks for heads." and he loses the ability to laugh for a while?
Is music 2.0 music that has no auditory value whatsoever, and is only purchased because you've been told to do so by some large online company and it's hired faces? eg Pussycat Dolls- sure they LOOK good, but WTF. Would a musician like Janice Joplin be able to make it today? IMO no.

Dammit, I've been listening to him since Saturday Teenage Kick first came out years ago and he sounded sorta like Fat of the Land Prodigy. I don't know what to feel about this.

I wonder how long it will be till musicians start complaining about sweatshop-like conditions over at EA.
LOL... I was going to say something similar.

It's a natural move - greasy scum sucking bottom feeding rat bastard weasels go from ripping off game developers and players to ripping off musicians and customers. Both EA and Nettwerk are artist friendly, progressive thinking companies who embrace and don't fear the future. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAyoutool

And $2.00 per song, you can join the EA music network with great, NEW bands like Papa ROach!
Oh fucking joy. These online music companies are as common as MMO's and they ALL suck.
Where is the EA Player where it works only with their online music system?
FUCK NEW MUSIC FUCK ONLINE MUSIC DISTRIBUTION WITH PROPRIETARY FORMATS FUCK EA
