The GW
Guru Forums offer all sorts of new information on the future of Guild Wars,
ArenaNet's online RPG (thanks
Guild Wars Slovenija). Word is ArenaNet is scrapping what has turned out to
be a cumbersome chapter format as they gear up for an expansion titled Eye of
the North and a full-fledged sequel, confirming
a recent scoop
on The Inquirer (story). Eye of the North is planned as a
holiday 2007 release at a lower price point than previous chapters, and will
offer content to bridge the storylines between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. They
go on to describe Guild Wars 2, saying the sequel will begin beta testing in
2008, and while characters cannot migrate to the sequel, achievements can be
transferred via a Hall of Monuments. The sequel will offer four new playable
races, as well as what are described as "radical changes," including an
"overhauled environment and character control system, redefined PvP play and
retooled NPC companion system." There are extensive further details in the post,
and even more in the source of the information, which is the May issue (#151) of
PC Gamer magazine, where they have interviews and screenshots (and a
bonus "mini-pet") in an 11-page Guild Wars extravaganza.
