Out of the Blue

Well March Madness is well underway, but as usual, not around the BlueTower, as neither I nor MrsBlue have any interest in college hoops. In fact the list of sports that I prefer to watch over college basketball is pretty lengthy: pro (NFL) football, pro baseball, pro basketball, hockey, softball, rally racing, NASCAR racing, dog shows, and of course, poker.

Mad Links! Thanks Ant.

3. LCD Monitors Mar 19, 2007, 12:03 Ray Marden

Good 'ol UPS demolished my lovely CRT - a Viewsonic P225FB (http://www.viewsonic.com/support/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/proseries/p225fb/.)

Some five weeks later, my claim has been approved and paid for. Obviously, I am now looking for a new monitor to buy and, with everything going to LCD, I was curious what people would recommend?

I am looking at stuff in the $400-$600 range. $400 would be great, $500 would be ok, and it better be angelic if I am spending $600+ on it. Are there any models all of you would suggest? Certain manufacturers? Should I opt for widescreen?

I have done some looking online, but various sites like different monitors. Also, where do all of you stand on widescreen? It seems like a nice idea, but from what I have read thus far, the standard monitors still have an edge over their widescreen bretheren.

Some office and school work will be performed on the monitor, but the monitor's primary focus will be gaming. In the interim, I picked up a Viewsonic VA730m (http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/valueseries/va730m/index.htm) and, though not high end, I have been very satisfied with it, especially for the $180 I paid. This monitor tops out at 1280x1024, but I would really like to get back the 1600x1200 I was running at (much less the 2048x1536 I was capable of.)

Let me know.

Thanks!,
Ray Eagerly awaiting his July upgrade.
