What exactly does the development time have to do with whether or not the end game is enjoyable? Actually, they can be strongly correlated. Games that have very long dev times USUALLY have reasons why... severe problems, bugs, poorly coordinated teams, etc. A long development time is symptomatic of many bad problems that can compromise the quality of the end product.
It's not proof... if a team is willing to dump what doesn't work, make the hard sacrifices, and start portions of their work over then they can still come out with a good, late game... Valve is well known for that.
But the sad fact is that very few games come out years late AND worth the wait. |
