We had our first "normal" snowfall of the year this morning, just two days before the end of February. We had a couple of dustings before, one of which was taken care of with a broom, and we had this dense layer of hail and rain last week that resulted in an inch-thick crust of ice that took as long to clear as a blizzard would have. Today was a normal layer of about three inches of snow that could actually be shoveled.

I estimate I drive about 2/3 highway 1/3 city, and I always fill up. I've been keeping a log to track my fuel usage. It used to be just a text file, but I recently created a spreadsheet using Open Office. I've imported it to Google Spreadsheets if anyone cares to see.

The spreadsheet still needs a little work, I basically imported the old text file and set up the formulas and did some formatting. It has only been since the last two fuel entries that I started using the spreadsheet instead of the text file. I'm thinking of adding columns for fuel brand, fuel type (LSD, ULSD, or BioDiesel) and location of fillup instead of using the comments field.

Anyway, if you're too busy to look at the link I'll sum up my stats:

32.8 MPG is my worst tank, driving mostly city and when the car was still new and breaking in.

45.6 MPG is my best tank, mostly highway of course. There was probably about 10 miles of city driving on that tank.

38.9 MPG is the average MPG over the life of my car. I did accidentally throw away 2 or 3 receipts before I logged them in March-April of 2005.

It's funny this topic came up today because I broke my most miles per tank record today. I drove 703 miles on one tank today on the way back from Birmingham, AL. I could have gone farther. The low fuel light came on right at 690 miles, and according to the manual, when the light comes on there is approx. 2 gallons left in the tank.

I drive the speed limit on the highway, there's really no point going faster, you waste fuel and don't get to your destination that much sooner, if any sooner at all. Around town I drive safe, but I'll push the car hard when there's no traffic and I like to accelerate hard from stop lights.

I purchased Medusa 5.1 headphones, tried out the rear speakers on them, turned off the feature and never turned it back on. It is possible to discern that sounds are intended to be coming from behind you while wearing them, but only because the sound quality on the rear speakers is greatly degraded. I would not recommend these to anyone.

Mine is way better then the average for my car (Nissan Versa).
I am averaging 32-36mpg (combined city and highway, mostly highway though).

It is sweet.

Wish I spent the extra $1000 for the CVT transmission though. Ahh well.

Here's the one for my truck:

and I routinely get over 17 mpg, have topped 18 a couple times. Rarely below 16. I guess it all depends on your driving habits and conditions. I am usually within about 5 mph of the speed limit (don't really speed too much) and use cruise control as often as possible. I also do mostly freeway driving, but get stuck in traffic frequently as well. Interesting.
