DAoC Expansion Freed

EA/Mythic announces that all subscribers of Dark Age of Camelot can now download and play the Catacombs expansion for the MMORPG for free. The add-on can be grabbed from this Dark Age of Camelot: Catacombs downloads page, and word is:

EA Mythic today announced that "Catacombs(TM)," the fifth expansion for the critically-acclaimed MMO "Dark Age of Camelot(R)," is available to all current and retired players as a free download. All accounts have been granted access to the expansion content.

The "Catacombs" expansion introduces improved graphics, five new character classes, three massive underground cities, and instanced dungeons to the world of Camelot. Players can download the "Catacombs" files at http://catacombs.darkageofcamelot.com/downloads.php. Former players returning to the game can re-activate their account, regain their original characters and take advantage of the online availability of the expansion.

"Catacombs" requires the original "Dark Age of Camelot" and the "Shrouded Isle(TM)" expansion to play. These games are available as a single, convenient 14-day free trial at www.darkageofcamelot.com/downloads.

Too little, too late. This game is dead to all but the really hardcore.

100% agree. Although DaoC has a decent system, its PvP is better than most of the competition, there's too much excess baggage in the game left from 2001/failed expansions and low server populations that holds it back. May as well wait for Warhammer.

I stopped the download about halfway thru, I realized that its an EA game =/. Its amazing what I will be pushed to do while wallowing in boredom on WoW patch days. I've come to my senses.........sorry Mythic, I dig you guys but I just can't do it.

It wasn't that for me. When I went back I just found the interface too clunky and outdated. Personal preference I reckon.

If you have played EQ1 latey and tried to go back and catchup, you will have the same feeling here. Player base too advanced and nearly impossible to solo if you start over

I was thinking the same thing, at the time of DAoCs popularity I was still an EQ bigot. And now I'm a WoW bigot, but I am also a fan of MMOGs and the new graphics look great, I just wonder what the total package is like. I don't need to hit lvl 70, or whatever the cap is, if its fun I'll try it.

I've never really played this one - was wondering is it worth giving it a try or is the economy and player base too advanced and unwieldy to allow people starting now a chance?
