Out of the Blue

Chili is made (and good... scored some fresh habaneros and some London Broil for this batch), as is the Chex Mix. Today's Super Bowl (oops, I've paid no one: guess I need to call it "the big game") is between two of my favorite NFL franchises (I'm old enough to have idolized both Johnny Unitas and Dick Butkus), so I have no real rooting interest, but, in spite of reports of bad weather, I have a feeling Manning might pull a Steve Young, and get the monkey off his back with a huge performance. Either way, here's hoping for a fun game.

I haven't seen any problems around here concerning elderly drivers, except that, under the best of conditions at times, they drive quite slowly.

My grandparents lived with us for most of my life until they passed away. The did a good portion of my raising, so I have nothing by respect for the elderly. Both my grandparents were sharp till the end, and were in their 80s.

That being said, I've had some close calls with some elderly drivers and those always bother me the most. Granted, I've had close calls with young kids, middle-aged, and what-not but it was the attitudes afterwards that always dug into me.

At least with other age groups, the driver would realize what happened and try to apologize or look embarrassed. They would eat some humble pie and hopefully learned from the mistake.

When it came to the near-misses with the elderly drivers not only was the situation their fault but they were either either completely oblivious to what happened or they'd think I was some insane "kid."

Like when a car full of seniors blew a red light and almost creamed my car, they shook their hands at me and say "Dang kids" through their window. Or when an old man was driving all over the place in a parking lot (worse than any teenager i'd ever seen) and almost hit a car, not even a blink. Etc.

I'm not saying that there should simply be an age limit, but while many of my grandparents' friends can still make the grade some of them definately cannot. I don't think it's too much to ask that after some point they're required to take periodic tests (like after 80 or so). Considering how dangerous a car is, it's probably better to be safe than sorry.

And heck if the DMV wasn't swamped already, I'd be OK with everyone having to take a driver's test every 5 or 10 years (young and old).

Should've been Addai - almost 150 yards of offense between running and receiving (including twice the catches of Harrison)? QBs get too much credit, and I think the anointing oil (sorry romo) was out early for this game.

Yeah, this the nature of the beast. I'd say it was a close call between Addai and Manning, close goes to the QB.

I have to go to jury duty today.

Served once on a jury a number of years ago and would like to do so again, just not right now. I am the only civil engineer in the office right now with my boss still recovering from his stroke. Too darn busy. I hate to try to weasel out of it, but if I get called for a jury panel, I may have to.

I haven't seen any problems around here concerning elderly drivers, except that, under the best of conditions at times, they drive quite slowly. Heck, my old landlady (my godfather's mother) doesn't go on the highway, preferring only to stick to the town roads - and never drives if it's snowing or raining. She's 83.

Admittedly, though, the first time my eyes passed over the title, I was thinking about "video" drivers crashing a system... like that hasn't happened before!

Well, just got my ass handed to me many times over in SP... would like to band together with players I "know" (from BN and/or friends/etc) to do a few run-throughs and get acquainted with the weapons, vehicles, maps and so forth.... anyone interested, just write back here (or drop me an e-mail).

Of note, I did crash once, six minutes after joining a ranked server... got one rank point out of the ordeal. Whee...

From now on, whenever you post the word "chili" in reference to your famous recipe, it needs to be highlighted as a link to your recipe, for geezers like me who keep losing where you have it posted ...

So you're saying it needs it own page here?

If so, we need a brownie page, also.

Very entertaining first half of football. Who'd of thunk that the Colts would be the most physical team? I thought Prince was pretty good at halftime also.
