I honestly think it will be a much more polished release then people here think. Just because the open beta servers arent up to snuff doesnt mean that these bugs and errors havent been addressed.
As an example the last three days have had significant changes and fixes. I believe that the release will be a much more polished version.
I agree that they do seem to be cutting it close, and a month would probably see the game finished, but I have yet to play a ORPG that hasnt patched a week after release to clean up things that 100K people can find better then 10k.

I don't call a 30 minute session beta testing. The game looks nothing like any other MMO I have played on an machine with a AMD64 3200 CPU, 2GB Ram and a 7800GT GPU.
Vanguard just got patched again a big one this time (about 140 megs). My monk and rogue now have new combat animations.

My weed supply is ready for release, I have been testing it for a couple of months now and the quality has improved by leaps and bounds. The last two batches have nearly resolved most performance issues being experienced by testers. These guys are pulling 18 hour days to make sure this batch is as ready as it could be come Jan 30. Sure when it comes out there will be a couple of things to address but thats just like every other stash out there. As they say, Rome went up in smoke in a day, or something...

Jesus Christ, don't they even teach you plants how to shill properly anymore? Blow some fucking sunshine up their ass while you're at it too.
The trick is to try to be at least a bit subtle.
So, just out of curiosity, how much did you make by posting that? A buck?

Difficulty and grind isn't the issue with VG. The problem is the game, despite the potential is thrown out the door early due to Sigil's piss poor managment of their IP. For a game thats been in development this long to be this buggy and incomplete is simply unforgiveable.
From the level 1-20 the game is ok but after that the content begins to take a giant dive. The Vision? They still have no idea where they want most of the classes to be as of the latest patch. Some are uber as hell while others are gimped to uselessness.
Don't even get me started on the performance and bugs. Assuming those issues are taken care off by the best patch ever, the lack of high and mid-level content along with balancing concerns are too large to ignore.
Stay away for a year or two. If Sigil can keep the game afloat this should be the best mmmorpg ever.

I just wanted to clarify your difficulty statement ... EQ had bosses that 70 people couldn't kill, thats almost 2x WoW raid size ... EQ was plenty difficult AND had time sinks ... I keep hearing this difficulty argument from everyone I talked to, who hold on to what little hope remains for Vanguard. That this game in some fashion is more difficult than WoW, that it doesn't 'Hold your hand' so to speak. I'm afraid it just doesn't stand up to scrutiny though. The things you speak of have to do with number of players, not difficulty, sure it's more difficult to get that many people together but I certainly wouldn't catergorize that as a plus.
I played the beta for a few hours, not only was it not any more difficult than WoW, but it had many things that made it seem easier, granted those things I only heard about and hadn't a chance to try first hand. The lack of anything resembling some sort of art direction, had pretty muched clinched my decision to not bother with this game in the first couple hours. Things like mounts at level 10, a type of group where you can get XP while not even being online, these make it seem like my hand is going to be held quite a bit. I had this game pre-ordered then I had to cancel my CC cos it got pwned somehow (a $30 charge appeared for 2 months from out of nowhere. Kinda glad to change it since I've had the same CC number for about 12 years online.) probably won't bother getting it now. Beta testers are there for a reason and it's not all about the company making the game.

Edit: To say every MMOG has had launch problems is like saying the sky is up or the earth is round. WoW's launch problems were on a whole new level. They were selling so many copies they actually stopped the sales briefly so that they could try to catch up with the server demand/overload and get more servers up and running before putting more games on the shelf.
Vanguard may be a good or even a great game but in it's current state nobody but the masochistic will ever know. I had more bugs in thirty minutes of trying to play than I could ever forgive.
I've beta tested dozens of games since starting with the Ultima Online beta. I have seen rough starts and rough launches. Most of us have. This is way beyond that.
When you have a 7900 GT CO and the game looks like the original EQ that is a problem. But even more so is the overwhelming number of bugs, the stiff and ugly as hell animations... oh, forget it. The game is in a sad state if you think buying it and paying to beta will make it a better game someday knock yourself out. It may even be rewarding in someway, who knows.
I'm sorry. I wanted to like this game. But it's like taking that cute girl you like out on a date only to have her get violently drunk and puke all over you as you're taking her sorry sick ass home.

Uh oh mob has 1200000000 hp, he is difficult.
Please, there is no challenge in any of these games. The combat system doesn't allow it. The "challenge" is in the lack of good communication between players in a group, a problem which extends to games that require OTHER assets in a player besides good communcation.

aren't all MMOs a matter of time invested?

Pre MM, there was no soloing to level cap/maxing AAs ... you doued/trio'd or multiboxed Hey, I was there at launch. I know what the game was like. All you needed was a basic understanding of your class and a group. That still didn't make the game difficult. It was more a matter of time invested than anything.

all valid points of the problems with this game, but Sigil is out of cash ... they can either sell their baby to someone else, go bankrupt and never see the light of day, or release early ...
I have had a server crash totally gimp my character (level up, buy spells, crash, 1 minute rollback, I still have my level, no spells and cant rebuy them), and 25% of the quests or bugged/quirky, pathfinding is horrid, the classes are imbalanced largely, most of the dungeons are extremely laggy, its a performance hog, it crashes to desktop alot ...
but the diplomacy game within a game, house plots, complex crafting, 12+ classes (inquisitor and berserker are coming), 18 races, the environments (especially dwarf level 1-14) ... this game has potential to fill that which WoW does not for holdout AC/EQ1/UO players ...
anyways ... hopefully I said enough negative things about VG to not be called a fanboi, but this is blues so I wont hold my breath

There's a difference between the types of server/use bugs that plagued games like WoW when it launched, and the type of simply annoying showstopping bugs I experienced in Vanguard. The sliders on the options screens didn't work, forchristsake. It's not just the content that needs more time, it has its fair share of just QA time that it still needs.

Is it a coincidence that in both this thread and the last thread about Vanguard being ready everyone except one guy (with one post in total on bluesnews in both cases) thinks this game isn't ready for release? I'm probably just paranoid (It's probably just fanboys) Name me one MMO that has been held up until it was ready? Even WoW was not ready when it first launched. It was by comparison the most ready MMO on release day, but they still were hammered by weeks of unstable servers and months of hardware issues on groups of servers. They will release it, patch it up heavilly over the next few months, but in the meantime the diehard fans will plug through it.
