S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Movie, Date

A new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl movie is now available on THQ.de (thanks Frans), offering the latest look at GSC Game World's long-in-development first-person shooter. The 90-second "Legacy of Chernobyl" clip depicts the nuclear accident that sets up the game's plot. The movie concludes by narrowing the game's release date from Q1 2007 to March 2007. On a related note, there's a STALKER History on IGN in which "GSC gives us a look at hte [sic] history of one of the world's worst nuclear disasters"

The GameSpot 10 minutes video told us MARCH 2007 as I pointed it 2 weeks ago.

Keep an eye on the official website and forum.

I don't have an "official" list but these are just a couple I remember besides the few listed already.

- One large continuous game-world, gone. Zones are used now with load screens.

- Prone position for character play purposes, gone. (I hope leaning around corners is still in but not sure anymore.)

- The "required" eating and sleeping, gone. They were requited to prevent fatigue. Not sure you even have to eat anymore but I bet if you can it is only to replenish health or get a temp buff of some type. I know they wasted time putting in a drunk effect if you drink Vodka. But I think the drinking of Vodka to prevent radiation sickness is also, gone.

- The AI Stalkers going about their business and competing with you... possibly even finishing the games main quest if you screw around too long. Oh, yeah... gone. Not that I believed it even all those years ago when they put out the media statement about the feature.

- The vehicles, but not just the vehicles... the maintaining the vehicles and scrounging fuel and parts to keep them running, gone.

So basically most of the features that would have made this a very interesting horror survival sim/cRPG are all gone. Now it is just a shooter which I haven't bought for years. It still has some possibilities but I am not convinced they will help them over the negative backlash after all those years of ultra hype and delays.

I wish I had kept an accurate list because I think there are at least another half dozen features that met with the bean-counters axe of reality +3. But I gave up about two years ago. What little hope I had has died. Now we just sit back and wait to see... is this the next Diakatana?

Supposedly Russia has had 3 nuclear meltdowns in power stations, however only the Chernobyl accident was ever made public and Chernobly was supposedly the weakest of the three. But hey it could just be a conspiracy theory, then again who knows exactly what happened in communist Russia?

Back to the actual movie, it's a good advert for TV and stuf, but a pretty useless advert for people who actually want to know anything about the game. There is no ingame graphics show off unless you count the end 5 seconds where you see 1 guy and that's about it. Ah i'll see if the game comes out, and what the reviews say about it. Could be good.

They also pulled co-op, and recent interviews have seemed like they're sneakily pulling away from some of that open-ended gameplay... I honestly have not bothered to keep up with it, though.

Btw, world's worst nuclear disaster is not Chernobyl.

So, what is? It says "one of the worst" so I'm not sure what you're referring to, but for that matter, what is worse than Chernobyl? I wouldn't say Hiroshima and Nagasaki count as their effects where intended to a large extent.

Actually, Chernobyl is regarded as the worst nuclear accident so far.

No, not "completely". The code for the vehicles are still hidden in the game for modders to play with.

Btw, world's worst nuclear disaster is not Chernobyl.

So, anyone have a list of features that have been stripped out of the game since it was first announced?

They've removed vehicles completely. They've also dropped any pretense of the gameplay being completely randomized. They DID manage to keep in the "Life A.I." though (animals/creatures go through daily living whether you are there or not)

If they end up with something similar to Boiling Point while being less broken and ugly I'll be happy.

These guys had some of the most enviable pre-release PR in the business and they blew it .....big time.

On a related note, there's a STALKER History on IGN in which "GSC gives us a look at hte [sic] history of one of the world's worst nuclear disasters"

So it's a recap of the game's development?
