Meh. If anything the seperate HD-DVD prevents people buying the console solely as a media player. Something else that may be at play (although it's more likely everyone just bought PS3's in Japan to sell them on Ebay).
There's no real good reason to bye an HD-DVD for an Xbox 360...just like I don't think there's any real good reason to have a Blu-Ray, other than you have to have one if you get a PS3. Both formats are probably decent, and all likelyhood is I'll end up with an HD-DVD drive during the holidays, BUT I still think they'll both end up dead formats at the foot of online delivery methods.
