Valve announces the addition of the Call of Duty series and GUN to their Steam online store, saying they will be offering GUN, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty, and Call of Duty: United Offensive. They also announce that City Life, Monte Cristo's urban-planning game is now available via Steam. In similar news, GamersGate announces they've added a bunch of Battlefront games to their own broadband store: Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin, Combat Mission: Afrika Korps, Strategic Command - European Theater, Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg, Down in Flames, and T72 - Balkans on Fire. To be outdone, GameTap announces a Twisted Sister Christmas album listening party.

Anybody know where exactly Valve announced this? Cannot find anything on steampowered.com, activision.com or valvesoftware.com...

If I'm not mistaken, this is also the first Steam game with PunkBuster support.
I wouldn't be surprised if it suddenly changed to VAC2.

Tbh, its a shame this didn't happen earlier. Maybe the PC version of CoD2 would have been patched a helluva lot quicker and recieved more publisher support. Hopefully this means a few more Activision games will appear on the service too.

Day of Defeat: Source

Terrible unbalanced at time maps, don't like the capture the points gameplay.

Battlefield 1942

Don't like vehicle whore games

Red Orchestra

Don't really want to play an uber-realistic game competitively.

To call Search & Destroy CoD2 like any of the above games is ignorant at best. Turned down the gfx to DX7, and I get 60+ FPS no problem on a moderately old system. I'd play CoD1, but the community isn't nearly as alive.

I played the single player, only to find out that the germans kept respawning if I didn't finish the objectives.

Yeah...that was the chief complaint I had with the game. The SP portion felt like I was playing a multiplayer game. And to drive that point further home I shot my first Nazi infantryman and found he really didn't react any different than CoD1. I was kind of hoping for some damage detail this time around. Nothing on the scale of what a real MG42 would physically do to a human being, but you know...some close approximation to being shot. Hell, Soldier of Fortune had some damn nice damage modeling.

CoD2 brings nothing new to the table. Either play Day of Defeat: Source, Battlefield 1942, or Red Orchestra depending on how you like it (fast action, vehicles, realistic). CoD2 was just a horribly lagging (did they even bother optimizing for PC?) game with a barely decent multiplayer (and worse than CoD1 to boot). I played the single player, only to find out that the germans kept respawning if I didn't finish the objectives.

Can anyone comment on the CoD 2 multiplayer? I might pick it up just for a multiplayer fix.

Somewhere between DoD:S and BF2 there is CoD2. The gameplay is much faster and sorta feels "deathmatchy" like DoD. One thing I don't like is the number of people who abuse the voice features to be irritating and vulgar. This is contrast to BF2 voice which just rarely gets used.

CoD2
+Stable
+Good looking
+Fun
+Large Installed Base
-Less Tactical than BF2
-Tons of morons(more than BF2)

I've been interested in trying City Life; with it being on Steam, presumably that means no Starforce to put up with.

Which bandwagon is filling up faster? The Steam one, or the Detroit Tigers one?

I can only comment on it from a perspective of someone that went from BF2 to CoD2..
I thought the hitscan was perfect, the damage was good, if not sometimes a bit heavy, the flow was fun too..
actually, i rather liked it. but only the infantry friendly maps where they put you right in the action.

There were some maps that were too big and i felt like i was out of the good action for most of the map.

so bottom line, i thought it was fun.

Kind of funny being how Valve also made ties to EA games as well.

Valve is getting a surprising number of large mainstream publishers on-board now...

No kidding, they are going to have a very impressive catalogue of games if this keeps up. Even though I'm not interested in the game, Dark Messiah is a big deal to have on steam, and now CoD and CoD 2? Business is good for Valve it seems.

CoD2/CoD1 on Steam is a big deal. Both games are in the top 10-15 games in terms of player numbers, and this will only help.

If I'm not mistaken, this is also the first Steam game with PunkBuster support.
