Well it just looks like bf2 with some new models... its ok but I wont be buying it.
Also, I keep getting disconnected from teh EA master server which brings me out of the game, funny as this is meant to be less buggy, I never had a showstopper like this with bf2

Has anyone else had an issue with the demo starting to load, then crashing with a DirectX error message? I'm pretty sure I've got the latest installed (9c, right?) but I've tried restarting a few times and get the error every time.

Anyone who buys BF2142 is an idiot. Anyone who bought BF2 just lacked foresight.

now this hunk of crap called BF 2142 that brings nothing new and its not even fun.
In fairness there is a lot here that is new but it's incomplete without the unlocks. I looked over the unlocks on the total2142 site and found that there are unlocks for most every thing that seems to be missing. Grenades can be unlocked for all classes, more sprint meter, faster recharge of sprint meter. Many things that should be there from the start are now locked and you can't use them until you get the unlock opened.
I think this change is a mistake by EA. One thing that I always loved about the BF series was that players came into the game on a level playing field, each class had a variety of weapons to use. In 2142 new players start with almost nothing and veteran players will start with a much more powerful setup in games.
Unlocks in BF2 were just a way to offer each class a different primary weapon and the new weapon(s) was balanced, it gives a little and takes a little. 2142 has taken that idea and locked up most of the weapons in the game and made the unlock weapons more powerful. (Sniper upgrade hits for 100? ...fun!) In order to really know how the whole game functions you have to play for a ton of time...
Kind of like grinding in an MMORPG. The stuff looks interesting and I'd love to see how it works but the way they've locked out most of the content is dissapointing. It would be like night vision in SF needing to be unlocked... Or Gas masks.
The price is my primary complaint with this game. 49.99? Needs to sell for 39.99 normal and 29.99 on sale. At $30 I'd be willing to buy.

I liked UT1, Battlefield and Tribes 2, HL2 is great in its episodes and story concept but they are 1) too limited 2) get boring and repetative in such a short time and 3) They are being milked to death.
UT200x ruined the fun in UT1
T:V ruined the Tribes fun.
HL Episodes are going to ruin HL (4 hours to complete? please)
BF2:xx - Special Fecies was the biggest con ever then they did it with Euro farces and so on, now this hunk of crap called BF 2142 that brings nothing new and its not even fun.

despite i understand your point of view you gotta understand that technology evolves because of games and games evolve because of technology, they kinda depend on each other, but either way, if it weren't for the continual development of these games, we'd probably be stuck with UT graphics, not that they are that bad at all, but there's better now!
Of those 3 you mentioned, i have fond memories of UT. Great game, great moments.

And I don't know why I ever doubted him. How can such a dead franchise get 100+ posts from a fuckin' demo. EA & Dice are probably laughing at us all. There's no such thing as bad publicity. It all sells units.

This game is a joke and riddled with bugs. I uninstalled it now as its just an udder waste of bandwidth and time.
If I want to play a fun mech mod I would load up Tribes2 and well... A Mech mod
Can we drop Mech's on the commander's head?
Unreal Tournament 1 ... Great game, then they milked it to the death.
Tribes1 and 2... Great games, then they killed it in T:V
Battlefield ... Good game, then they milked it to the death.
I see no reason to buy this mod, it doesnt bring anything new and fun to the game.

2nd hand I don't think you are understanding what he is saying.
He's not saying it takes a day to download 1GB
Nor is he complaining about the time it takes to download.
Some people on high speed internet have LIMITS on how much data they can Send/Receive within a certain alloted period of time. When they go OVER that rate their ISP will knock down their limits.
So if he tries to download 1 GB in a DAY he wont' be able to do anything else fun cause his bandwith will be so severely limited the rest of the DAY.

I think this game is going to grow on people but it feels like another BF Vietnam.
In past games the developers had the advantage of working with things everyone was familiar with. When players jumped into BF1942 everything made sense, you could tell what vehicles were used for and it was easy to understand how everything worked.
In BF2 same thing, weapons were familiar and easy for new players to hit the ground running.
Biggest gripe I have with BF2142 is nothing feels familiar. The class system gives me some idea what my soldier class is for but once i'm in game the variety of vehicles and how to use them create a lot of confusion in the first few games.
After enough time things make more sense but it doesn't have the same vibe as the previous BF games. Feels more like a BF vietnam where it's trying to create something altogether different.
The weapon sets feel incomplete as well, and probably are. Not giving ppl any unlocks was a huge mistake. No grenades? No explosives? No anti tank mines? Big mistake EA, this game will probably be a lot better once unlocks become available but many won't ever see it because your demo locked them all down.

is just one of the nasty things this software has in store for you, the fix to it is you have to let this connect to EA servers thru your firewall or it will crash your system and do all types of nasty things, such as messing up my ATA drive boot sequence. Let alone once I got it all figured out and tried it , It S U C K E D lol what a waste of hype.
But I hate most FPS anyways so mabey im biased.
