BF2142 Demo Plans

GameSpot's Battlefield 2142 Demo Page is now live, promoting the release of the sample for DICE's military shooter sequel that is expected this week (story). The page does not offer one of their countdown timers, much less a release date and time, but there is a synopsis of its contents: "The Battlefield 2142 demo features the Sidi Power Plant map and two playable armies, the European Union and the Pan Asian Coalition. It also includes both the new Titan mode as well as the popular Conquest mode." Complicating the demo release is word from yesterday's BF2142 Collector's Edition announcement (story) that those who preorder the CE will get 24 hours of exclusive access to the demo.

Having played 2142 more then the majority (both before, during and after the Public Betas) I can say that the game has changed and been refined by leaps and bounds over the crap public betas.

Internal testing ended less then a week ago and I can say that this release should not suffer the problems that BF2 did during its release.

I must say that air combat is less then gratifying and I can only hope an expansion will deliver this back to 2142, if not.. well Titan and Conquest modes are fun as hell and you dont miss the air combat as much as you might think.

Verdun was fun... but trust me, the other maps are friggin sweet!

Mind Trigger, I'm not buying it.

I know that you are one of those people who need to justify your purchase of a game, but I AM NOT BUYING IT!

One of the things that noone mentions with the hover tanks is terrain. It is a problem getting over what would be no problem for a treaded tank. Also the turret does not turn. While it will be great for flat landscapes in the beta I used it a few times and gave up trying to get the tank out of a small ditch.

I've been posting on Bluesnews for friggin years and and years. One thing I have learned about you people is that nearly 3/4 of you who bitch about a game and say you will "pass" will go pick it up anyway when it comes out. You see popping your mouth off as some sort of bold move, then you quietly buy the game anyway and pretend you didn't say anything about it later when you post about playing the game.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

The biggest mistake they made with this franchise was taking out the CTF mode. I Still play BF1942 for that alone.
I agree. I'm suprised nobody has made a mod for this yet. I prefer CTF over the territory control, there just aren't enough players, even on 64 player maps, to defend all the bases. A lot of times I just end up moving from base to base, taking it over without seeing an enemy.

Whats the difference between these "hover tankss" and normal ones..they float off the ground a few inches..big deal..they probably still handle exactly like normal tanks with speed & armor..

I'm buying it. I expect problems and I understand gameplay isn't going to be all that different, but who gives a shit? Yes, I prefer to play Quake Wars, but it's going to be a while. I guess I'm just not as attatched to $50 as some of you are.

I enjoyed BF2 for several months until I got sick of it. Actually that wouldn't have happened if they released the boosters as an addon to the base game instead of stand-alones. I'm sure I will have fun in 2142 until something better comes along.

will the mechs and vehicles be dropped out of the sky? or are they just sitting around?

I'm not sure what other ppl think but I've always thought that one of the key weakness's in BF2 has been how vehicles spawn. If you are driving a tank, that tank will not spawn again until about 30 seconds after it is blown up. Knowing this, it is in the best interests of a player to remain in the tank and be blown up if you want to get right back in another tank...

Same goes for aircraft. And in fact this is a big problem with A/C, once you get into one, your odds of getting to use it the whole game are extremely high. Hence you get ppl killing friendlies so they can use the jets and helo's.

I wish they would have an immediate spawn for vehicles when they are blown up because that would give other players a chance to use them.

A better more complex way to handle it would be to have a que system that is access'd through the squad menu. If you want to fly the jet you add yourself to the waiting list, and once your jet spawns no one can use it but you. (of course if you weren't around someone could just blow it up and wait for the next one to spawn.)

Basically, this *IS* BF2, except that it's got different guns & vehicles.

I can't believe they are charging $50 for this game. I followed the link to the ea downloader page and it's not giving you the ability to pre-load the demo as implied, it's letting you download the demo early if you pre-order the game, which costs $50!

What a bargain! I'd consider doing it if I could cancel my pre-order prior to the game shipping... Anyone know if you can do this? I'm guessing that isn't an option...
