It's called markup and done on just about everything sold in the US.
Mark up is there to make a profit, not spend 11 cents for someone to make something then sell it for $200-$400, I'll just disagree on that.
If I could afford to send you to China and see how most "3d artists" there work, I would, but I can't. Trust me, if it's not a sweatshop, it's the closest thing to; by our standards or theres. On the flip side there are some really nice facilities there, but that doesn't change how much they get paid or how long they work, usually if you have beds/showers/gyms it's not there because the company is nice(IE: EA Burnaby)
And yeah, it's a shame what goes on in 3rd world nations, but explotation is happening here and there; I wouldn't really consider it giving them opportunities... well actually I do, but it's a pretty damn bad opportunity.
