EA and Crytek?

EA executive hints of possible acquisition of Crytek on TG Daily (thanks Allen) is a story speculating about EA's interest in the German developer, saying: "According to article published in 'Die Welt,' EA's executive vice president and general manager of international publishing Gerhard Florin described Crytek as a 'very, very interesting candidate' for an acquisition." Of course I consider Angelina Jolie a very, very interesting candidate for a mistress, but that doesn't mean MrsBlue or Brad Pitt need to start lining up private investigators, so we shall see what comes of this.

Trust me they have a lot of sell through in FPS games and the public server player information backs that up. so? the endgame is to get you to buy the game at retail and load it, they don't care how much you play it afterwards.

Trust me they have a lot of sell through in FPS games and the public server player information backs that up. As does actual sell through information for games like the Battlefield series and CoD series among a few others.

Nice try though listing NPD "data" as a source for your misinformation though.

EA wouldn't ice Crytek after Crysis either Oh, ofcourse not. It's just that Crytek will be forced to make "EA style" games. Ie, crap, built for the lowest common denominator, straight ports from Xbox versions, buggy as shit and no support from the publisher. Quite frankly, they'd be better off dead... Creston

Hey Hellbinder, you looked at the NPD data recently? Perhaps you should lay off the Starbucks for a few days. If you don't know what NPD data is then perhaps you should take a back seat and STFU. Publishers, especially EA don't really give a rats ass about the server rankings on gamespy, they care about the sell through at retail. This comment was edited on Aug 27, 17:54.

EA would actuire Crytek because they do not have a very strong foot hold in the FPS market, not because they want to crush the competition. EA's share of the FPS/Action genre is very minimal, even with the BF and MOH franchises and they see that area as room for growth.

Sorry that is just totally WRONG.

EA has a great Presence in the FPS market. You dont go to gamespy very often and check out the server stats do you?? They are consistantly #2 behind the counterstrike games with BF2, and have strong showing throughout the rest of the list with other franchises. Thats not even all the servers, just the ones that gamespy tracks. EA is the second/third biggest presence in the FPS genera.

Let's hope not. While consolidation is largely inevitable in this industry, it'd be a shame if support was dropped for Crysis a year after it came out, or that we had a bajillion expansion packs.

EA has about 20% share in Ubisoft now, they are a minority share holder. They aren't trying to screw Ubi's relationship with Crytek, because their no longer is a relationship with Ubi... my understanding of the Ubi Crytek relationship is that it went VERY sour after Far Cry. EA wouldn't ice Crytek after Crysis either... they need them to continue to make games in the FPS genre, we are more then likely going to see them continue to develop FPS games if they are acquired, just that they would be forced to some EA rules (deadlines, target platforms etc.) Lastly, Crysis is being published by EA already... it's not a Ubi property. ---Quote CJ_Parker --- I wouldn't be too surprised if Crytek is a target of destroy competition by acquisition (due to their close relation to UbiSoft which is definitely a target of EA... remember Ubi holds all Farcry rights and remember how EA attempted a hostile takeover of Ubi), meaning that all Crytek development would be put on ice after Crysis has shipped (I would guess that they have to deliver Crysis for Ubi by contract so the possible EA deal would not affect Crysis but only future products).
