New WoW: Burning Crusade Details

The World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade preview on UGO is an article that digs through the details of the coming WoW expansion and offers a pair of new clips on their video page, featuring two interviews with Blizzard designer Kevin Jordan who discusses new features in one clip and new races in the other, with each clip offering snippets of gameplay. Revealed along the way is that the expansion will feature maximum raid sizes of 25, rather than the 40-player raids of the original game (which will remain unchanged), something that raises more ire in the Games Radar Burning Crusade Preview. Also, Joystiq interviews WoW's Jeff Kaplan in a discussion of specifics about the Burning Crusade with its lead designer. Finally, offering details on the new dungeons and other features in the expansion are extensive new previews on the usual suspects: GameSpot, GameSpy, and IGN.

post some news on real pvp mmorpg's

www.thronesofchaos.com

Ok, so the site reads like a tech demo for an engine they're selling, with minimal info for the game and an extremely crappy web page design. And... Why not post a 'real pvp mmorpg'? If the game isn't out on shelves and being uninstalled in droves, it's not yet real is it?

Does this game have levels or classes?
Thrones of Chaos does not feature levels or classes. Instead it takes advantage of a more open skill system. We believe a MMORPG world should offer as much freedom to the players as possible.

Yay... another attempt at removing levels... No really, maybe this one won't be shit like the others...

Does the game use instancing?
No. There are no areas which are instanced. We feel instancing has no place in a MMORPG world.

hahahahhaa... read: We don't have the technology so let's try and justify it...

mmorpgs I dont play anymore Guildwars, EQ1, Eve, SWG,Rysom,Wow.

mmorpgs I do play HeroOnline,SPACECOWBOY.

Guild wars is a massive? ; )

Anyways... You added Hero to your games played, which really just threw the whole 'try space cowboy' out the window...

Course being a 'way better playing game', it must have great UI and millions of users... no?

Edit: Typo... Checking out space cowboy though... Don't like the whole credit purchase concept, but we'll see how the game is without it...

No, you misinterpreted. There's going to be at least 1 neutral city in Outland, but both the new capital cities and starting zones for the new races are in Azeroth (just in new areas of Azeroth). There will not be new content for 20-60.

Thanks, that does spell out my basic worry about the expansion...the absence of mid-level content. I'm a relatively casual solo PvE'er who's run a dozen toons up into the mid-40s, but found my interest flagging once I've hit the grind needed to get up towards 60. I'm disappointed that there won't be anything significantly new to lure out anyone who's not hit the level cap.

seems to me that a lot of you people have had issues with guilds.
i can say that since jan 05, i have been in the same epic guild and we dont have any substantial drama, no 40-man issues, nothing like what all said above me.
Either i've been really lucky, or your choice of guilds has been terrible.

25 is okay.. anything less isn't worthy of epic rewards.

lets not start sounding like whiny casual players here..

From what I've heard, the addon allows you to set the difficulty of an instance for your group (assuming you're the leader). The higher a difficulty you set, the better the loot, the lower you set, the worse the loot.

Taking that into consideration, you SHOULD be able to set up an existing dungeon on a high difficulty level and run through a real challenge with your small group. If there's anything about the expansion that I'm looking forward to it's that concept.

25 people is still too many. Why can't they have really challenging 1 group dungeons? Large guilds are just drama factories anyway.

But the new races and cross class bs will guarantee I never, ever play this game again.

Read between the lines:

No 40 man raids released with the Expansion.
Then
Only 40 Man raid content after the Expansion.

I too are also glad I quit. I was bored out of my skull then Blizzard announced the Alliance Shamans, after confirming this was true I hit the cancel account button.

Its not really the change as such but the complete lack of imagination into explaining the change, effort in trying to balance Paladins and Shamans in raids and lastly after a year of telling us that they would never give horde Paladins or alliance Shamans, they come out and say its been planned since the beta.

Keep in mind that there is a problem with having 40-man raids in an expansion: everyone in your guild would need to buy the $39.99 expansion. What's the chance of that? Yeah, pretty low. Can you imagine buying the expansion and not being able to experience the content immediately because a bunch of your guild members are either slackers or too poor? On the other hand, expecting 25 of your usual 40 raiders to immediately buy the expansion sounds just about right. With the content tailored for only 25 players, early adopters can enjoy the new content almost immediately, instead of waiting for slackers to buy the expansion or quitting the guild to join an expansion-only guild in order to have the numbers to do the content.

It's only breaking up the monopoly megaguilds (which are in the minority) have on all the high end content. Blizzard seems pretty committed to basing the game around raids so why not (finally) make them more accessible? The smaller raids along with the revamped honor system will finally take the game out of the hands of the greedy powerplayer. When will they realize that WoW is just a game?

What really irritates me is that Blizzard doesn't seem to care what will happen to guilds built around fielding a 40 man raiding force. What's going to happen to the 15 people who won't be able to raid with their guild anymore? And recruiting more people to run two raids at the same time isn't a good idea: I was in a guild that ran two raids at the same time and the amount of drama created by it eventually led to the second raid breaking off and forming a new guild. Actually, to run with that story, they tried to form a second raid group again and it worked for about 3 months before the secondd group again broke off and formed its own guild.

Basically, with the change away from 40 man raids, Blizzard is screwing over a huge number of guilds and they don't even remotely care.

/will probably stop playing WoW because of 25-man raids.

Games Radar writes cheesy articles anyway. Someone tell me why lowering raid sizes is a bad thing? 40-man raids aren't "adrenaline-pumping epic battles" they're ridiculous clusterfucks which takes hours to prepare for and hours to complete for a piece of armor you won't get!

/stopped playing WoW because of 40-man raids

"All I've been able to glean from these previews are that the expansion will include (1) a starting area feeding into a capital city, and (2) level 60+ zones and instances. What I'd like to know is, will there also be mid-level zones and quest chains through which one can grow a character completely, or are you going to have to spend levels 20-60 in Azeroth?"

No, you misinterpreted. There's going to be at least 1 neutral city in Outland, but both the new capital cities and starting zones for the new races are in Azeroth (just in new areas of Azeroth). There will not be new content for 20-60.

Although these previews neglect to mention it, there are at least 5 level 60-70 zones in Outland, and it looks like at least 4 5man instances, 2-3 10man raids, and at least 2 25man raids.

As a pretty hardcore WoW player, I'm thrilled with these changes. I hated 40man raids because it was just politically unwieldy dealing with getting 40 people to show up and play well. 25man is a HUGE improvement. And the new PvP system sounds wonderful compared to the old system (which must have been devised by some demon from Hell).

That said, I think Blizzard is going to take a lot of heat for changing the raid size this late. For those people who have had a lot of success with 40+ people <sigh> the ensuing drama is just mind-boggling.

So basically they're making the PvP system more like Guild Wars including Gladiator/Team arenas, points being used as currency to buy stuff, they added Blood Elves to the horde so it won't miss out on the hawt Elf sects (we all knew that, but the lead designer flat out says it in the Joystiq interview...lore? LOL) and stopping the focus on 40 man raid dungeons because they realized they aren't fun (wow it took them a year to figure that out?)

So glad I stopped playing this "game" a long time ago.

Thank god they're finally getting rid of the worthless current honor system and going with something that isn't based on the user not taking bathroom breaks.
