Out of the Blue

The news is reporting that our area is due to be hit this week by the heat wave that's been cooking the west coast. This is not great news, as our weather was already, as the line from Biloxi Blues put it, "Africa hot."

wanted an Asus (never had a problem with my old Nforce2, the Socket 975 board came top of Anandtech's recent shootout) but it's not on the GX2 support list. Out of interest, why are you looking at the 7900GTX? I was under the impression that the GX2 was the faster (single) card. It's slightly more expensive though I guess.

I used to swear by ASUS boards, now I won't go near one. I had to RMA two boards just to get one that would POST, and that one (the one I'm using right now) has a dead SATA port that will prevent the POST routine if it's plugged in.

Honestly, I'd written off the GX2 cards because of what I assumed would be a much higher price tag. Took a quick look through Newegg, I'll probably go that route now. Thanks. Only thing I won't do is SLI or Crossfire; I'd rather save the money and put it toward a new DX10 card down the road.

Don't think I'll bother with the aftermarket cooler - not interested in overclocking.

Anandtech had the E6600 up to 4GHz, though that was with a Tuniq tower. I'm hoping for 3GHz stable.

And I'm with you on the Corsair RAM.

Neither have I, and it OCs very well. Though for some reason I'm very attracted to the stuff with the pretty LEDs on it. *shrug*

Edit: Hm, was going to recycle my PS but I don't think it'll feed enough power for a GX2 card. As it was I was questioning how well it would do. Time to add a new one to the list.
