The news is reporting that our area is due to be hit this week by the heat wave that's been cooking the west coast. This is not great news, as our weather was already, as the line from Biloxi Blues put it, "Africa hot."

Looking at a Gigabyte board atm, with an E6600 and a Zalman cooler on top since the E6600 apparently overclocks so well. I'll drop a 7900GTX in it, 2GB of Corsair DDR2
I wanted an Asus (never had a problem with my old Nforce2, the Socket 975 board came top of Anandtech's recent shootout) but it's not on the GX2 support list. Out of interest, why are you looking at the 7900GTX? I was under the impression that the GX2 was the faster (single) card. It's slightly more expensive though I guess.

The E6600 looks to be the best value/price chip at the moment. The Extreme l33t edition is a joke in terms of price. Anything less is only slightly less expensive and given all I need is Mobo/CPU/RAM/GFX (case, drives, etc... all reusable) I'm not too fussed re: an extra £40. Don't think I'll bother with the aftermarket cooler - not interested in overclocking.

And I'm with you on the Corsair RAM. Never had a problem with my old stuff, indeed my current memory has a long life ahead of it dealing with my digital photos and other low priority tasks in the graveyard PC I'll make from the spares.

Edit: A few replies to my post in the Anandtech forums suggest the GX2 series IS compatible with the Asus W5P board, even though it's not listed.
