The news is reporting that our area is due to be hit this week by the heat wave that's been cooking the west coast. This is not great news, as our weather was already, as the line from Biloxi Blues put it, "Africa hot."

No. At least, not the way you said it. That is backwards, they would more likely stop it from working then make it work properly.
Along with the standard make sure that it is updated (both FF and GM), on the one that is not working go to Tools (menu)/ Manage User Scripts and then click on the alt logo script and look at the include and exclude. There should not be any exclude and the include should just be http//www.bluesnews.com/*
It is possible that got screwed up somehow…do not know how, very confusing.

It is probably your flux capacitor, its firmware needs updating.
