Its good esp in areas in which rFactor lacks atm such as track commentarym, pit advise, weather, but I give the edge to rFactor anyway, Ive got over 100 fan made tracks and about 20 car mods for rFactor, and compared side by side to this rFactor moves better looks better and handles better, the jury is still out on the AI and Weather effects.

Actually, yeah, the AI in this was very good, though I really didn't think about it - perhaps that's a sign of how good it is. They race quite hard, they find themselves off-line sometimes, and they go for the pass where they can, but I was never bumped off the track or slammed into from behind by them. They also seem to brake at about the same rate as the player, rather than the amazing out-braking the AI seems to do sometimes in rFactor/GTR. Other than that, it's a great sim, but I'm sure the LFS/netKar/Anti-gMotor people will disagree.

I read somewhere (and I dont claim it to be true at all) that starforce only gives you problems if you try to tamper with it, ie if you try to bypass the protection of a pirated/downloaded game that uses starforce, if this is true then the only people that have to worry about starforce are people that dont pay for thier games. That's probably a large part of the reason why people complain (that and a bit of global paranoia). The real issue seems to be that while the starforce drivers work fine on most people's computers, they apparently cause serious I/O problems in some cases. Considering how hard it is to make some mainstream games work on all machines, it's not much of a strech to believe that low-level I/O drivers may not work as intended everywhere.
And then, there's the fact that they're messing with your system's configuration and treating you like a potential criminal just so you can play a bloody game...
In my case btw, the one starforce game I own didn't cause any problems, which doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. I can't help feeling a little dirty when using the game, though...
[Edited to add something on-topic:]
I'm a big GT Legends fan (the one starforce game I own) and I'm really looking forward to this one. I downloaded the demo before going to work this morning and it took all a lot of will to leave it and jump into my real car to drive slowly to work.
From all the comments I've been reading all over the web so far (so much for actually working), this one looks like a winner.

I've found the GTR games to be completely addictive. The realism is only comparable to RBR and the old F1 games. If you've ever tried a racing game and wished the AI weren't quite so cartoon this is defnintely worth a go.

Goddamit you need a steering wheel for this game if you play on anything but novice. It seems as if every single bump in the road surface is modeled and as such can play havok with your car if you dont know what to do. Heh.. yeah I hear if you try to play a GTR game without a wheel, the game activates special code that points and laughs at you
Thanks for the review though, Malakai -- have to give this a try when I get home tonight.
Geez... with StarForce nearly defeated, I'll be able to change my nick pretty soon!

I just tried the demo, here's a mini review:
Graphics: Pretty good. not the best i've seen (then again i can't play many games on everything full), but they do the job.
Gameplay: Goddamit you need a steering wheel for this game if you play on anything but novice. It seems as if every single bump in the road surface is modeled and as such can play havok with your car if you dont know what to do. Damage is pretty good (i saw lots of that :D). I haven't tried it against the AI yet as i was merely practising my skillz.
Sound: Well there's no music, just the roar of an engine.
All in all it's a sim-player's game. If you're expecting to do handbrake turns and all that, dont play this game, but if you enjoy racing sims, you should enjoy this.

Well, actually a lot of the starforce protected games have been pirated, it takes a lot longer tho, so in a way it has some succes in keeping the game un-cracked during peak sales.
I'm still against it tho since it caused some really funny stuff on my comp.

Just to nip it in the bud really early, the demo and full game won't have Starforce:
"Informed sources have revealed to AutoSimSport that Starforce has been dropped from GTR2 - both the demo version available today and the final release version scheduled September 30th. Sources reveal that 10Tacle have, instead, opted for securrom, which our source reveals as a "Sony solution".
http://www.bhmotorsports.com/GTR2
With that out of the way, people can actually discuss the game.
