No they didn't maliciously record anything.

It was a joke How can one use gameplay stats in a malicious way? (other than the crazy ideas Riley thought up, that is)

Don't you remember? Steam IS spyware -- they maliciously record the number of times you die on every level in EP1. Riley gave us a good paranoid rant on that already.

No they didn't maliciously record anything. It was announced, and it has always been in the EULA. You were well in your rights not to install the software. Spyware installs and tracks your information without you knowing it. There is a difference.

MOUSE 1 - Fire
MOUSE 2 - Forward
MOUSE 3 - Alt Fire
Space - Backwards
Strafe Left - E
Strafe Right - T
Jump - R
Crouch - G
Reload - Q
Walk/Run/Use (depending on game) - A
All Chat - Z
Team Chat - X
Flashlight/Kick/Feign (depending on game) - F/D

This allows me S, W, Y, H, U, J for very easy access for advanced controls in the FPS games that require it....for example.
Lean Left - S
Lean Right - H

Leaves me with the rest of the keyboard for the lesser used controls but still accessable. My fingers also arent digging around for extra keys while Im trying to move foward/back. Been using this setup since the Quake 1 days.

For the record, I also don't understand people that use wasd instead of esdf.

I just sat here and imagined playing with it for a moment. While I completely agree with your logic, the reason I wouldn't use esdf is because my pinky doesn't have nearly the dexterity of my index and/or middle finger, so I wouldn't benefit from any keys freed up to the left.

I imagine some use wsad differently than others -- I use my pinky on A and my ring finger on W. My middle finger sort of hovers over D and my index finger's home is on F with an easy reach all the way out fo U, J, and N (V is my default "use" key since lean left/right take Q and E all too commonly these days). Some probably use their middle finger for W...but that just seems weird to me.

As for Team Fortress 2, I'll evaluate it when Valve releases something worth watching like gameplay footage or a demo.

That has never stopped you before (see the Portal video thread)...which only means one thing here since you havent chimed in before now. You actually like the look of TF2 but are unwilling to state so because everyone would laugh at you since you've never done anything but flame Valve for every little thing they have ever done...even when that "thing" didnt even happen (ie Steam being spyware).

He might have been joking about his comment,

LMAO! I was absolutely 199% joking with that post -- like Slinky317 says, there's some SST in there.. (you have to admit it was a decent springboard to page 7, though :D)

For the record: I HATE playing FPS on a gamepad. I just can't stand it, and the argument that there's not much difference is perpetrated only by the crackiest of Crack Monkies.

To date there have been exactly 2 FPSs that I have tolerated on a pad: Goldeneye and BLACK.

Both because they're console only and have stayed that way so far, so there's really no choice. And in the case of BLACK, there's really very little need to actually aim at things in that game, so the fucked-up nature of gamepad FPS-control works well enough.

Truth be told, I can't WAIT for a good cross-plat shooter to come along.. it's gonna be really fun to slaughter those gamepad do-gooders.

I mean, it gives you less easy buttons. If a game has a lean, a and g are perfect. But if you use wasd you have fewer buttons to the left...

This is one of the reasons why it SUX to do sniper missions on GTA games on the PS2.
Lol the worst ones were the ones where you were in a car shooting out the back (think the last mission in SA, or that one near the start which ends up punching a hole through the signboard). Complete fluke every time whether or not you manage to do it.

Tell him to type his papers with a gamepad then.

I know console dorks that claim they would beat us - no shit. Makes me laugh everytime.

He might have been joking about his comment, but just yesterday I had someone complaining to me that PC gaming will always be inferior because the mouse and keyboard sucked.

I was able to brig them over from the other thread.

Wouldn't that make you the troll?

All 4 of us on at the same time and actively posting in the top 2 threads really has nothing to do with you.

a gamepad is about 100,000,000 times better for controlling these kinds of games than M/KB

WTF??!?!?!?

If that happens and this thing gets cross-platform multiplayer it'll FINALLY give me the chance to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt to you bastards that a gamepad is about 100,000,000 times better for controlling these kinds of games than M/KB

Wishful thinking.
Be sure to record a demo of that. M/KB will 100% destroy you and your gamepad. Have you wondered why most shooters have autoaims on console? Battlefront, etc...

No precision. Just pick out 5 random pixels on the screen. With the mouse you can zip from one to the other in a split second with a ton of accuracy. With an analog stick, even with the maximum sensitivity most games offer, it'll take you ten times as long.

Well said.

Yeah, I would like to see someone run in circles around me while shooting me the whole time using a gamepad. FAT CHANCE.

I would LOVE for them to make FPS games cross platform - the console tards would quit very quickly. It would be a slaughter.

This is one of the reasons why it SUX to do sniper missions on GTA games on the PS2.

What?

Hook an Xbox controller up to your PC and go online. It isn't pretty.

Want proof? Two good bits:
1) Microsoft will let you connect a USB mouse and keyboard to the 360, but you can't use it for gaming. Want to guess why?
2) Huxley is a cross-platform FPS game. But the developers have said the hardest part is figuring out how to balance it. Want to guess why? Here's a hint - they're considering limiting the sensitivity on the PC to make it even...

[TrollFX Extreme Fatal-one-ty Edition: Road to 200]
You know what just occurred to me?

This maga-package Valve is talking about with EP2, TF2, et al would seem like a natural for Live Anywhere support given how many folks are likely to buy it..

If that happens and this thing gets cross-platform multiplayer it'll FINALLY give me the chance to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt to you bastards that a gamepad is about 100,000,000 times better for controlling these kinds of games than M/KB
