Love him or hate you gotta admit.... Gabe eats babies. Big steaming trays of juicy babies.
I'll wait and see how it turns out first. I doubt this "add on" will be anything close to the TF2 glory that we all dreamt about long ago. At least they can say that they shipped before DNF now though.

And great gameplay is great gameplay, now or in 96.
Unfortunately, that isn't true. Quality is a subjective measure and as time passes, so does your notion of quality. What might have entertained you as a child will not likely entertain you today. Just look at Doom. Great at the time, but not so great when compared to modern shooters.

Gabe had said a couple of years ago on the VE boards that he refuses to release something thats already been done. Then someone needed to remind ol' Gabe that Team Fortress had already been done for Quake 1 when he released it for Half-Life. Half-Life: Source, Counterstrike: Source, and DOD: Source, also break that supposed promise.
he wants it to differentiate itself in some way which you gotta respect. Post Steam the only thing I respect Gabe for is knowing how to fleece and take advantage of Valve's fans idiots.

Was the grappling hook even in the original TF? I thought it wasn't added in Mega TF... maybe I'm thinking about the rocket pack... In MegaTF the spy had a grapple hook and the scout had a jetpack, but "Ambush,MD." was the "dev", if you want to call him that, for MegaTF (www.backblast.com/mega-tf/), and completely detached from the original TF dev team.

The concept of Team Fortress was amazing back then even if it was just recycled from Quake II WTF!? Like Prop said, it was developed as a mod for Quakeworld.
I remember it well. It was actually developed by a bunch of Melbourne guys, one of whom was a Quake player who wen by the name of Bro (... actually Robin Walker who moved to the US to work for Valve). Best damn player I ever met and an absolute slippery fiend on the old DM6.

And great gameplay is great gameplay, now or in 96. People still play the original, and with good reason: it's one of the few team FPS's where people actually play as a team, even in pubs.

The concept of Team Fortress was amazing back then even if it was just recycled from Quake II, but for 2007? I just don't think Valve can pull it off. It would have to be some sort of huge open city with vehicles and lots of bond like gadgets or again outdoor areas with lots of bond like gadgets. Being that it's intended for tagging onto episode 2 I doubt they'll put the effort into it.

Valve sucks ass! 60s spy feel? One of the whole reasons anyone was looking forward to it was because of the modern-day war setting! Gabe had said a couple of years ago on the VE boards that he refuses to release something thats already been done. he wants it to differentiate itself in some way which you gotta respect.
....Then the regulars at the VE board started flaming him with posts like "You fat piece of shit"...."DIE"...."etc". That was last time I saw him post on a public forum.

This all just sounds like a retarded April fool's post by someone who doesn't know what day it is. This brief description of TF2 totally turns me off and makes me wish TF2 would just remain vaporware.

Odd I fired up regular Team Fortress Classic last night and played a few rounds of 2 fort. I'm not anywhwere near as excited as I would have been say, 8 years ago when they showed the first clips of the old version. I'll check it out though.

TEAM FORTRESS 2. WHERE DID THIS COME FROM? Hey, they're still making it! It's got a totally exaggerated, crazy art style now. Looks a little like Spy vs. Spy or No One Lives Forever, kind of a '60s spy feel. 60's spy feel? What the hell?! That's not Team Fortress. That sounds like somebody's Half-Life 2 mod in development that is getting a familiar name slapped on it so that people will think they are getting something worth a damn with Episode 2.

Naa, it'll be like Ep1, you don't need to have any other part of HL2 to play it. If it comes with Ep2, then I assume that means that you... wait for it... need to have Ep2 to get it. At least, that's what the press release makes it sound like, unless TF2 is going to be released separately as well.

I remember reading CGW or PC Gamer's preview of TF2 and it looked like some sort of BF2. Neat ideas for its time though.
