This press
release announces The Lord of the Rings: The White Council, an RPG that's
planned for release on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 late next year that's
based on the LotR movie series. The game is being overseen by EA's Steve Gray,
and is presumably the project that's previously been teased under the working
title Project Gray
Company ( story). Here's the announcement: CHERTSEY, UK
July 13, 2006 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today the
development of The Lord of the Rings™, The White Council™, an all-new role
playing game (RPG) for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system,
PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and PC. The game, inspired by
the New Line Cinema feature film trilogy that grossed more than $3 billion, will
feature an original storyline derived from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the
Rings novels under an agreement with EA. The game is scheduled to ship in late
2007.
“Our extremely talented and dedicated team is committed to creating an
incredible new experience for fans of The Lord of the Rings and role playing
gamers,” said Steve Gray, executive producer, The Lord of the Rings, The White
Council. “With its next generation gameplay and epic new storyline, we think The
Lord of the Rings, The White Council will be a huge success.” Players have the
freedom to explore the open world of Tolkien’s
Middle-earth™ in The Lord of the Rings, The White Council.
Players can
choose their role as a man, an elf, a dwarf, or a hobbit. Each role’s
destiny is to become a hero allied with the White Council, whose members include
the famed characters Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond.
A combination of
stunning graphics and expansive environments, along with the freedom of movement
demonstrates the innovation and quality of the next-generation RPG, where
players can create their own adventures. The Lord of the Rings, The White
Council has not yet been rated by PEGI. For more information about the game,
please visit: www.whitecouncil.ea.com.

I've bought a DS but don't have WiFi at home...what is for me, the best way to play games with friends who live a good distance away? I saw WiFi USB stick advertised that you can plug in the the back of your PC and voila! You can play online...or do I have to find hotspots?
Assuming you have high speed cable or DSL, the USB adapter was designed for cases like yours. It uses the network connection of whatever pc you have it plugged into. There's an app (after you install the drivers/program)in the system tray that you grant access for each DS (up to 5).
Is it possible to hitch along other, open, WiFi networks? You bet. If your DS sees more than one wireless network it can connect to, it should prompt you to pick one...
I have wireless, but my network is WPA, which the DS does not support. The USB adapter is also supposed to work for me...and I'm hoping it does.

Talk about retarded! I click the linky, 'cause the game actually sounds interesting...and http://www.whitecouncil.ea.com/ goes to a page filled with ONLY EA sports games!
Jesus h christ on a pogo stick! I know it's silly, but that just pisses me off! It's a perfectly good redirect for the game page, and I have to see the EA sports catalogue? WTF are those idiots thinking? Not even a link to the game which I obviously am there to have a look at, but freaking sports games?!?!?
Someone over at EA should be shot. Make that someoneS.
-edit- Huh? Something wierd happened!? For some reason I somehow posted half my post, and I did it as 'everyone'? Can't edit it either....Strange...
-edit- even stranger, this 'everyone' actually has a post history! Heh...how about that...

Maybe I'm just easily persuaded, but this game sounds so next-generation and innovative... and umm... and epic. Yeah.. it's gonna be sweet.
Information doesn't want to be free, it wants to be tied up and spanked. It told me so itself, in a naughty little whisper. |

nin, if you get the time check out mario & luigi partners in time. pretty fine game. I think i had around 25 hours of game time at the end. a small handful of those hours may have been idle but it still made a long game I'll add it to the list, but right now the list is pretty long. I'm also digging out a few Advance games I haven't touched since last year or so...Final Fantasy 1+2 looks like it may keep me busy...
I'd seen M&L in stores and it was on the "maybe" list with Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. And I finally broke down and bought MK last weekend, after I read a review saying battle mode was back and it supported bots (I don't remember it being in the Advance version, which seemed to concentrate more on racing than battle, which kinda made me lose interest).
edit: We should start a location somewhere where we could add friend codes for the DS...but I still need to get the USB adapter, since I don't want to take my wireless network from WPA to WEP...

And Dan, how often are you online w/ the DS? I've got Hunters and even broke down and bought Mario Kart. Still on the fence over Animal Crossing... not very often... i could be if i knew people that wanted to play though. recently i found a hot spot in front of the office building i work in so ive been trying to get down there at lunch to get a couple quick games of tetris off.
the thing about animal crossing... theres no option to find players to play with.. you have to have friends give you their friends codes. if you're buying it to play online that is trouble. luckily for me i believe my sister is getting a ds for her birthday next month and i know of a certain brother that could send her a copy of the game so he could finally play AC online.

EDIT: WHERE'S THE WII VERSION!?
I could just see EA trying to have Gandolph (spelling however) Frodo and Sam storming Omaha Beach...and hey! Gollum would be your stealth/spy unit!

I hope it's a 'proper' rpg and not some action-hack thing which doesn't resemble an rpg in any way.

I'm willing to give it a shot. The whole 'openly explore the lands of middle-earth' is something that hasn't been done to death, so thats a plus.
EA's involvment cancels out that plus :p
I'll wait and see what happens. Nobody has been able to do LotR even remotely right, besides the Battle for Middle Earth games.
Not that I'm all that hyped yet. But we'll see.

Sounds lame.
