Out of the Blue

Okay, last night's Deadwood may have been the best television show I have ever seen. I better not have my six-shooter handy if I ever run into the suits who decided David Milch's talents would be better used on a surfing show.

No studio would put out something with CGI that bad these days.

I beg to differ.

Wow, looks I hit the road just in time. It's getting ready to storm in Indy, from what my shortwave radio says. Ah well, hit a netcafe in St. Louis, figured I'd check in and harass you guys for a little while. Enahs is still hates us all, that's normal.

Later guys.

Cause I am pretty sure it says, "Screens" on that page. Ass.

Actually, it says “Theaters” not “Screens”. Some theaters have more then one showing of the same movie going at the same time. Penis.

On top of that, it is comparing Spidey with Pirates. I don't think ticket prices are an issue.

Yes. In fact, all of the top 10 will be the same movie price per ticket (maybe varied by like 10%).

He probably wants numbers adjusted for inflation properly for movies like say Titanic or E.T., but they are still below this.

Of course, box office numbers are bogus to begin with. They don't take into account the number of screens available, or the constantly increasing ticket prices.

Oh really?

"Unbelievable!"

Just goes to show how little influence the critics have. From Rottentomatoes: Spider-man 2: 93% PoTC2: 53%.

re. Star Trek Enhanced - Took me about 5 seconds to realize that was fan made. No studio would put out something with CGI that bad these days.

Unbelievable!

Yes, very impressive indeed. But it is barely over half of what it cost to make the movie though. No reason that movie should have cost 225 million other then people skimming a lot!

I swear to God if I *ever* get that way that one of you would put a bullet in my head to save the world the type of misery this women put others through.

Ever? I am all for preventive measures in certain cases. Want me to put a bullet through your head now? Just to be safe?

Sucks but it is good too. Ehh….Yeah….Werd.

I will always be a huge fan of Firefly.

I never got into it/enjoyed it when it aired on Fox because they screwed with the order so much. But I got it on DVD, it is damn fine work. It deserved more seasons way more then Stargate:SG-1 ever did.

I will always be a huge fan of Firefly. I've always had hopes the show would be resurrected by ShoTime, HBO, or SciFi. But it's hasn't. At least Serenity was fun!

We're just discovering Firefly. I won the box set on ebay for 15 bucks and we're enjoying the hell out of it right now. Phenomenal writing and i love the space/western theme to the whole show. We saw Serenity before we started watching Firefly and it's turned out to be one of our favorite movies.

A friend told me that Whedon was so sour about the show being cancelled that the chances of it every returning is slim to none. It's a real shame.

BTW - not Paramount - this is a fan's piece of work. I think this is the link to the artist who did the original work:

If you have to post the childish animals going to the bathroom could you at least label it NSFW. Better yet never post anything like that again.

Agreed. I thought it was some sort of uber image of a Linux kernal sploding or causing some general ruckus.

Very sorry to hear that.

and so we're glad she's no longer suffering, and unfortunately, she took out her misery on everyone

That was pretty much how my grandfather went out. Not many tears shed, but an overwhelming sigh of relief...

20. Well, I'm back... Jul 10, 2006, 14:56 banddirector

4 days after returning from a great vacation in Disney World, my wife gets a call from her sister saying that their mother (who has been in very bad health for a few years now) was getting towards "the end" and sure enough, 2 days after we travel down to So. Idaho, she died.

This is truly a mixed blessing for a couple of reasons; she was absolutley miserable for the last couple of years, and so we're glad she's no longer suffering, and unfortunately, she took out her misery on everyone, especially my wife and her sister. She was pretty nasty to me too, on occasion; we had a pretty typical "son-in-law/mother-in-law" relationship, complete with all the battle axe jokes you can shake a stick at. It got so bad towards the end that my wife, who could EASILY win a "nicest person in the world" contest, was starting to wish it would all be over.

So it's over, and everyone is breathing a sigh of relief. I swear to God if I *ever* get that way that one of you would put a bullet in my head to save the world the type of misery this women put others through. Yeah, I know this all sounds kind of heartless, but I had a hard time with the frustration and anger she put my wife through.

Many thanks to Tango for turning me on to the Nintendo DS Lite; it kept me occupied for many hours while we were taking care of all the final stuff.

Here's some info.

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/hd-upconverter.htm

Essentially it tries to make the picture more suited for your HD TV by
a) eliminating the digital -> analog -> digital process a normal DVD player would face when interfacing with your HDTV
b) it tries to cleanup the picture and up the resolution slightly

Step B isn't pefect, as you can't magically turn something into something it isn't (non HiDef to HiDef). But it supposedly helps.

17. Speaking of DVDs... Jul 10, 2006, 13:46 strich

I've noticed over the last few weeks that the DVD player we've got in our bedroom has started to sound like film reel running thru a projector. So i guess it's time to get a new one. Anyone have a suggestion for brand and model types? I've got a HDTV and want really good quality picture and sound. I thought Progressive Scan was the way to go with this, but i'm reading something about DVD Upconversion. Something about it converting normal DVDs to High Def quality? Anyone know anything about this? I was gonna hit Best Buy on my way home but figured i'd ask you guys first.

edit: Oh, and i'd like something that plays DVD-R+/-, CD-R and mp3's (see, i knew i'd incorporate the previous discussion into this somehow).

You just to have rip the CD's to MP3 and then copy them all over to a DVD.

Yeah, but as I stated above:

I don't want MP3 (at least at this point).

Alright, I'm gonna start watching deadwood, I've only seen like 5 minutes of it so far, because the dumbasses who bought the show here decided the best time to send this was when only granny watches TV, late saturday night. So Its gonna be the torrent flavour for me then. I started watching Arrested Development because of Blue's many posts on it, and that was absolutely one of the best shows I've seen. Gonna start with Season 1, this better be good
