They shoved SF on Nations because it would be possible to reverse-engineer the exe to crack previous releases.

SlamDunk, TM:Nations comes with StarForce, but you can uninstall the drivers and still play (SF will just encrypt the executable then).
The less malware in your computer, the better.

If you're interesting in trying it, I believe TM: Nations is still a free download. Hey, thanks for the heads up. I downloaded it last night and I've been playing it quite a bit. The graphics are perfect, and many of the tracks are fucking insane! Car control is very tight (using the keyboard). Overall a nice little arcaded racing sim. If the pricing is right, I'd pick up United (since I already have SF on my system thanks to X3).

I've bought every TM game. They're great games, but they have two big problems: StarForce, and the fanboys that critizice anyone who dares say SF is bad in their forums.
In my case, I've had lots of problems with SF, so although I'd love to continue supporting Nadeo, I won't do it if they keep installing malware in my computer.
And the funniest thing?. SF is easily cracked this day, Moscow contest or not. The first Starforce 4.0 game has already been released in the net.

Trackmania Sunrise was the best game of 2005, for my money.
And it's not only a ridiculously fun game, but the engineering is superb too -- gorgeous looks and excellent performance even on a 1GHz CPU and GF4Ti.
And the customer support from Nadeo is second to none.
StarForce arguments aside, you can't go wrong with the Trackmania series.
edit: crap. I've just been reading another thead where someone was accused of being a shill, and have come to the depressing realisation that it's difficult to genuinely gush about a game without it looking like that nowadays -- my post looks just like an advert. sigh. so i guess with the fell game i can make my own tracks? Correct. With a very easy to use editor. Abd then there's the Puzzle mode where they give you X number of certain pieces, and a start and finish line, and you have to figure out which pieces to place where to finish the race in a ceratin amount of time...

You know I've been checking Blue a few times between today and yesterday, no updates but suddenly this item's comments were booming.
As soon as I read the first few I let out a sigh in understanding.
That's not to say I don't hate Starforce tho, fuck those Russians and fuck those companies that treat me like a thief by default (which is virtually all of them nowadays...).

Tough, they can chose a better publisher and deal. They can always self publish. I have no symapthy for them. They have none for me.
If you dont like the deal, roll your own. Its the internet, they have the tools and channel to self publish. They don't even have to print media. More profits and can be cheaper than the rest.

Nadeo, despite its publisher being scumbags for including starforce, are a small studio and deserve your money.

It would be hypocritical of me to critcise someone for piracy. I just think that if you don't want to support something, you should leave it alone. Downloading it, maybe sharing it to other people while using bittorrent, and then perhaps talking about it to other people or on internet forums just spreads attention about it. A boycott seems more effective if you just ignore it altogether. Don't give them money or attention.

I bought a StarForce game and needed support for some SF issues from EgoSoft (X3) and that is what burnt me, they treat their customers like shit and ignore any SF related problems. So they STOLE from me. They set the example I am following
Publishers are dishonest, so I am dishonest back.
It does count as a boycott. It means they get no money from me. Businesses are there for money, no money, no business. Sounds like a boycott to me, boycotts can take many forms.
I have no moral problems with it whatsoever so your "guilt" move doesnt work. They had no morals when they treat us like thieves, so we may aswell be thieves if we are treated as such.
They set the stage, we do the acting. If they want honest, they should set the example.
They also dont want to be ACCOUNTABLE (read the EULA), that alone is DISHONEST.
