7. Imminent news? Jun 30, 2006, 03:45 SSIops

I just thought of something. With these little chapter previews Arcane is releasing to promote their game, could it mean a set release date announcement (currently just September) will follow?

It would make sense. Other developers/publishers have done similar things. Create a nifty marketing campaign showing off bits of the game with videos of gameplay, pictures, etc. and once the campaign comes to a close and interest of the game is high, make a release date, gone gold, special news, etc. annoucement

I figure in the next few weeks the elementalist video will come followed by videos of worlds/locals, maybe a couple 'making of' documentaries then finally Gold Status!

It's one of the most effective ways to promote a game in my opinion. Build up the hype 2-3 months before release so that the game doesn't get 'old' and lost amidst other game announcements. It's how I would market it.

This game should be of interest to people who enjoyed games like Deus Ex and Thief. Randy Smith (designer on all 3 Thief games) has said this:

I’m biased because I worked on it (only a little!), but Dark Messiah of Might & Magic was my favorite game at the show - it was beautiful with a strong sense of identity, and the fast-paced, sword and sorcery brawls with orcs made amazing use of the environment to give the player a feeling of ownership of the encounters. Really the guys at Arkane are pulling off things that we would have liked to accomplish at Looking Glass and ION Storm.

I'm really looking forward to it.

I've been watching this game since it was announced. every month it looks better and better!

I just know this is one of those games where I will spend 20 minutes trying to decide which class I want to advance in instead of actually playing the game

The multiplayer sounds really cool too. I signed up for a chance to go into the beta but havn't heard anything yet. Has it even started?

Never even new about this game. It's on my radar now though. It might be the "ninja" game I've always dreamed about.
